Now this is a BlackBerry. To anyone suggesting that all BlackBerry phones look the same, just have a look at this guy. Introduced this week in partnership with Porsche Design, the new Porsche Design P'9981 smartphone from BlackBerry is easily one of the most flamboyant RIM handsets to ever be introduced.

It's build with a forged stainless steel frame, hand-wrapped leather back cover, sculpted QWERTY keyboard, and crystal clear touch display. This customized Porsche Design P'9981 comes with an exclusive Porsche Design UI and a bespoke Wikitude World Browser augmented reality app experience. It also includes premium, exclusive PINs that help easily identify another P'9981 smartphone user.

It's built on a performance driven platform that features a 1.2 GHz processor, HD video recording, 24-bit high resolution graphics, NFC, and advanced sensors enabling new augmented reality applications. It comes with 8GB of on-board memory, expandable up to 40GB with a micro SD card. BlackBerry OS 7 is onboard, so there's no BBX or QNX to speak of.

Shipments will rip off of the starting line later this year, and reports are suggesting an estimated selling price of around $2000. Yikes!

I really like the aesthetics of this phone. The price however is kind of odd to me. I get it Porsche designed it yeah, yeah whatever. The design seem rather simple though and minimalistic to me so the name is all that costs much money. Yes; it does contain, or seemingly so, more metal than most designs which is the only existent way I could justify the price. None of that matters though I really like the design and would like it even more on a smart phone (hopefully of the Android type;) ) with a drop down keyboard!

"I agree, it's beautiful. Its a perfect compliment to owners and fans of Porches all around the world. The price is surprisingly not what I expected, I though it would be around 5 grand or more. This is better than those cheesy diamond and gold bling out special editions phone that have inferior specs. This one is an aesthetically pleasing improvement over the original."

Yeah right for $2000 dollars. It does not matter if it is made of metal, its stainless steel not platinum. Paying for a name is not cool at all and I don't see this device selling very well.

Don't worry. I'm sure the lack of sales will cause it to drop to almost $300, therefore making it in your pricerange...

Simple is the new thing, the simpler it is the more it will cost :P. This looks like a device from the future to me for some reason. But who is going to toss up that cash? lol is putting Porsche or their ideas on a product going to really increase the price this much O.o
