The less-than-forecasted preliminary third quarter 2011 revenue results are primarily due to 32 nanometer (nm) yield, ramp and manufacturing issues at GLOBALFOUNDRIES in its Dresden, Germany factory that limited supply of "Llano". Additionally, 45nm supply was less than expected due to complexities related to the use of common tools across both technology nodes. AMD continues to work closely with its key partner GLOBALFOUNDRIES to improve 32nm yield performance in order to satisfy strong demand for AMD products. The less-than-forecasted preliminary third quarter 2011 gross margin results are primarily due to less-than-expected supply of "Llano" and associated products with higher average selling price (ASP). Additionally, shipments of AMD's next-generation server processor, codenamed "Interlagos", occurred later in the third quarter than originally anticipated.
Bad for the stock but good PR that they admit early that things are not rosy.
Hopefully AMD can get it's act together and start turning a major profit. Rory Read did wonderful things at Lenovo and is known for bring double digit growth.
Time will tell..........................
Things are not looking too good for AMD. Hopefully they get their act together.
"AMD should lift the damn NDA tonight so the fanboyz from each side can trash talk throughout the whole weekend and up until Tuesday, cause next week all the buzz is going towards Apple and the Iphone 5. If BD turns out to be great, then AMD's stock value will rise as well. Anyhow, no more Bulldozer talk for me, until reviews are posted."
Well whenever a manufacturing problem happens you can be sure that there's going to be delays. AMD has to get those chips out and if there are no chips then there can be no Bulldozer.
I seriously hope AMD gets through this okay.
"The future starts with you; now start posting more!"
They've survived much worse. And more than once. :P
usually optimistic with anything AMD & hopefully they will be able to close the gap with the L3 cache and would definitely like to see them do.so.always seemed to me that AMD is listening to users experience and would like to see them deliver us the Trinity and ensure competitive pricing with Intel.
"Don't Panic ! 'cause HH got's your back!"
