A few years back, when Intel launched its enthusiast-class, dual-CPU powered behemoth, codenamed Skulltrail, we were among the small group of tech publications that were given an opportunity to evaluate the platform before it hit the market. At the time, when two of Intel’s fastest quad-cores were installed in the D5400XS motherboard that was the foundation of the platform, Skulltrail proved to be the most powerful configuration available to enthusiasts for CPU-intensive workloads.

In our conclusion of that article, we called Skulltrail, “A beast in every sense of the word”, which was true on many levels. But that sentence was also catchy enough to grab the attention of some top brass at Intel, because it was quoted in an advertisement that appeared on the front pages of The Wall Street Journal and Financial Times a few weeks later, to coincide with retail availability of the products.

It’s not often that something we’ve written has appeared on the front page of prestigious publications like these, so needless to say we were pretty excited when we found out Intel planned to use the quote in that ad. Needless to say, we saved a few copies and have finally gotten around to having them framed.

This may not be hot tech news worthy of the front page, but we wanted to share it with you all nonetheless—even if we are WAY late with it! Now, to find a spot to hang this thing...

Hang one of them up at my house.

HotHardware has been quoted on Newegg's site before as well. While that is not a National News journal, it's seen by a h*ll of a lot of nerds everyday.

The contest for the Skulltrail started a few weeks after I joined. Realneil I thought it was you who won that one? If so how is it chugging along as I am sure a system like that can probably still put up a decent fight. If I am mistaken who was it that won as I have obviously forgotten!

Either way back to the point it is really cool you guys got a quote on the Wall Street Journal which I am thinking will be the last big print media paper left, and probably for a little while as well. Either way I don't think you could get much better (if at all) to have a quote printed. Think about it this paper is probably transcribed in several places and will go down in history that way.

100 years from now some Computer Science major will probably use it in a paper on some subject for class where he got the transcription slide live from the Library of Congress or something.

Not me,....I won the CyberPower PC built i7-870 with the 2GB Dual GPU GTX-285 and 8GB of RAM in a CoolerMaster Storm Sniper Case. It never chugged, it hauled-ass and it still does! That's why I'm always talking about the cable management that CyberPower PC puts into their builds! This PC was, and still is amazing.

Would like to have heard Don LeFontaine do a voice over trailer preview describing the Skulltrail “A beast in every sense of the word”,

better yet to have him narrate while Marco is building the beast of a rig ..

Fortunately some of the brain cells still available can provide this 'clip' between the ears.Smile
