Google Updates Android Market For Phones

Not a day goes by that we don't hear something out of the Google camp. There's hardly a harder working company in the tech-biz, truthfully, and regardless of whether it's Chrome OS or Android (or something else entirely), something's always changing in the land of Google. This week, they're dishing out a monumental overhaul for the Android Market on phones. This comes just weeks after a new Market hit select Android tablets, as Android 3.1 brought Movies and a few other small things to a handful of Honeycomb tablets.


With this new market, users have new ways to find apps/games, purchase books and rent movies. That's right; the Movies addition is now available on Android phones with v2.2 or higher .In the U.S., you’ll be able to rent thousands of movies, starting at $1.99, right from Android Market on your phone. With the Videos app, available in Android Market, there’s no more waiting for downloads, syncing, or worrying about storage space. Simply sign into Android Market with your Google account, and you can rent movies from anywhere – the web, or your Android phone or tablet – and start watching instantly. You can also download movies to your device so they’re available for viewing when you don’t have an internet connection.


In the U.S., you can also buy books right from the Market, and since they're linked to your Google account, they're available from basically anywhere. The Market is also seeing a speed boost, but it might not hit your phone right away. It'll be rolling out in the "coming weeks," with supported phones to see it automatically. Patience is key!
