Not surprising considering Apple has a 3 or 4 year head start on Android.
Still a good milestone kudos Apple.
Apple has had a big effect on the smartphone world. Although I prefer Android over Apple, I feel that even Android users benefit from this - it shows how important it is for a platform to have a huge number of offerings in its app store and I think developers will pay attention to this. Given the numbers above, I think it's hard to argue with the fact that people love apps and customizing their phones in this way!
It's kind of hard for a 4 and a half year old product (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_iPhone) to have a 3 or 4 year head start on a 6 year old product... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_%28operating_system%29)
What's recent is the boom in droid phones... but the operating system was released by Google in 2007, same year of the iPhone.
