CTIA Wireless 2011 is underway in sunny Florida, but this year's show is a good bit different than shows of the past. Why? Because mobility is expanding. Rather than just focusing solely on cellphones and smartphones, this year, we're seeing a lot of tablets debuting as well. Many of today's big tablets ship with integrated 3G services from a major carrier, making them ripe for introductions at a wireless trade show. Samsung was on-hand at the show to introduce two new tablets, both in the Galaxy Tab line. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 were unveiled...but wait, wasn't the latter just introduced at Mobile World Congress?

Kind of. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was actually introduced a month ago, but this is an updated model that's even thinner. The real kicker for Samsung is them being able to claim that this is the world's thinnest 10.1" tablet, even thinner than the iPad 2! Both of these measure just 8.6mm, which is just wildly thin. They also have the company's own TouchWiz user interface, and Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) is the operating system that's loaded on. These new Tabs will also support HSPA+ mobile network speeds as high as 21Mbps, Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and a 1GHz dual-core application processor.

You'll also get the Readers Hub and Music Hub pre-loaded, a 3MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and Flash/HD video playback support. The 10.1 has a 1280x800 resolution display, as does the 8.9, so there's hardly a reason to grab the larger one unless you just need fonts to appear larger. The 10.1 is set to go on sale June 8 in the US, with the 16GB model to sell for $499 and the 32GB model for $599, both Wi-Fi only. The 8.9 remains a mystery, though we are told to expect it in "the summer" by $469 (16GB) or $569 (32GB).

Steve Jobs is crying the in corner because he no longer has the thinnest tablet. I was reading about this yesterday and they look like two great products. I just wonder how thin you can go without running into problems(keep your minds out of the gutter on that one!).

Now you're just mashing it!

I doubt Steve Jobs is doing any kind of crying at all... he's too busy rolling around in all the money people shelled out to replace the Ipad they just bought for a new Ipad 2.

I don't get why theres is a in between size 8.9 inch size model...does having 1.2 less real-state make the 8.6 version a more affordable alternative to the 10.1?? All in all I see it get criticized for being smaller than the Ipad 2 9.7.
