Note to Microsoft: Put out a browser that doesn't suck and people will download it. That's the lesson Microsoft should take away from the recent release of Internet Explorer 9, arguably the first version of IE that's truly able to compete with Firefox and Chrome. Perhaps because of this, IE9 was downloaded more than 2.3 million times in its first 24 hours.

"We want to thank everyone around the world for downloading IE9 and the enthusiastic reception," Microsoft wrote in a blog post. "2.3 million downloads in 24 hours is over double the 1 million downloads we saw of the IE9 Beta and four times that of the IE9 RC over the same time period."

IE9's download numbers aren't on the same level as Firefox, which set a record in 2008 when 8 million people grabbed Firefox 3 on its day of release, but 2.3 million isn't anything to sneeze at either. Microsoft needed IE9 to get off to a good start, as IE's share of the browser market has been headed in the wrong direction.

Have you downloaded IE9? If so, what do you think about it?

Well ..I wasn't one of the 2.3 but I recently saw a report about it in the news, saw some interesting features. I will download it and try it out when I get the chance. I don't see how IE9 can knock Firefox from being the center of my browser needs, but I will know soon..

Yeah; I picked it up, and actually somewhat liked it. That is until today when I was trying to build a web page using it, of course I also tried it in Firefox with no better luck. There java scripting was way screwy, and kept resetting me (I am talking from noon to approximately 3:30 when I gave up). The I finally opened up chrome, and wam bam thank you mam everything worked flawlessly or near enough I did not mind it anyway.

it will be an upgrade for those people who dont really know anything else besides IE. For us picky people, chrome and the new FF 4 will do.
