"Earth is only home to 6.8 billion people" "5.28 billion cellphone subscriptions to occur by the end of 2010. " It seems the most astounding number here is that according to these numbers only 1.52 billion of a world wide population of 6.8 billion do not have a cell phone!
To extrapolate that further including underage children in a world with a population including all living members (and the babies) as well as all of those in developing countries only1.52 out of 6.8 billion do not have a cell phone that is a tad over of a quarter of the world does not have a cellular device. When you take children out of that because most of the do not have a cell phone under say 10 years old it probably up's that just over a billion or a 6th of the worlds population who does not have a cell phone.
I agree with rapid1's comments.
This number might refer to total cellphone subscriptions, but it absolutely does not mean the number of people.
How do I know this? Well for a start I have 4 subscriptions myself and I know many other people with multiple subscriptions, most often to keep business and personal separate but also due to specific numbers for specific projects. Individual subscriptions does not equal actual individuals. Be serious about quoted numbers or don't quote them as actuals.
I'm going to go with stevenajclarke on this one. Just to point things out, my momz has two subscriptions, I have two, my girl friend has three, etc. Secondary (and above) subscriptions most likely account for a fairly large chunk of that 5.28B.

if you think about it more then 1 person lives in most house holds and just 1 internet connection is used between multiple people. and some people have more then 1 cell phone and here in the us almost everyone in the house hold has a cell phone.
As amazing as these statistics are what is even more amazing is that most 5 Billion phones have atleast one ARM chip in them.
Talk about profit. We look at Intel and AMD ... but are is killing it
