VIZIO Resolves Patent Dispute with LG Electronics Irvine, CA -- November 18, 2010 -- VIZIO, America's HDTV and Consumer Electronics Company, announced today that it has signed a settlement agreement together with cross license agreements ending a patent dispute with LG Electronics, Inc. ("LGE") that began in 2008. The settlement encompasses actions that LGE and VIZIO filed in the U.S. including in the International Trade Commission resulting in various orders and determinations. The terms of the settlement agreement and the cross license agreements were not released. The parties will file requests for dismissal of all outstanding actions in the appropriate courts.
All that kicking and screaming, and the only ones benefiting were those doing the kicking and screaming. Sad.
Of course they'll be able to use these patents against, or defensively to, other companies. I imagine that will be another event with a lot of kicking and screaming that eventually ends in cross licensing. So, the lawyers will make a lot of money again (which we pay for in every monitor sold) and no real value will be added.
Who does this really hurt, other than the new small start-up? A small company might have a really unique display technology, but it's not going to do them very much good against the established megacorps when every little thing from the connectors to the power buttons have been patented.
What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you understand?
I agree! some patents are soo stupid. I was at a bio-med seminar once, and pharmaceutical are the WORST!. patenting bloody enzymes in seeds??
The ***... that seed is grown on earth... how the *** can u patent the entire seed itself. I understand if you patent the process of which an enzyme is extracted, but not the entire seed.
Chinese companies fighting about who owns the patent to the technology they got from americans in the first place?!
Who is the reall winner? We inovate they dominate!
The next patent dispute will be over which one owns the rights to the Iphone, the Ipad, and the Star Wars franchise:P LG or Samsung!
