For the first time, Facebook has surpassed Google to become the most visited website in the U.S. for the majority of 2010. According to online measurement service Experian Hitwise, Facebook topped Google with 8.9 percent of all U.S. visits between January and November 2010.
Google came in a close second with 7.2 percent of all visits. In 2008 and 2009, Google.com dominated the top spot as the most visited website. In 2007, MySpace, another social networking website, enjoyed the top spot. MySpace is currently ranked No. 7.
Facebook's move to become the most visited site in the U.S. shows just how much the site has gained in popularity. In just six years, Facebook has become the world's largest web-based social network with approximately half a billion users.
Although Google may have lost the top spot, if you consider its properties such as YouTube and email, Google still reigns supreme. All together, Google and its properties had 9.9 percent of the visits between January and November 2010. To compare, Yahoo and all of its properties come in third with 8.1 percent.
The problem with Facebook is that it's like owning a Bar that caters to college students... a lot of activity but you'll never get rich selling to this crowd.
If you ever needed an example of what's wrong with the young generation Facebook is it. Mindless self promotion of nothingness!
Julian Assange vs Mark Zuckerberg : Who is the real Man of the Year?
>> a lot of activity but you'll never get rich selling to this crowd.
Can you clarify that a bit? It seems to be precisely the crowd to whom advertisers are trying to communicate, and Mark Zuckerberg's net worth is about $7B.
What part of "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" don't you understand?

Let's see: One sells your private information to corporations, while the other freely gives the private information of corporations to you. Who did you think Time Warner was going to prefer?
Wow this is incredible, it really shows how society is moving towards becoming completely digitalized when the #1 website visited on the internet is a Social Networking website, society is literally moving onto the internet and out of person to person relations
if websites keep integrating facebook, ill have no where to protest them ....
"Can you clarify that a bit? "
First off, Advertisers don't sell tangible products, they sell access to them. The problem with the young generation is they have no attention span, and although advertisers want this market, doesn't mean that their market wants the product. So basing success on selling Ad space is not a business model. They're also too easily distracted and not brand loyal.... this is the same crowd that made MySpace a hit just 3 years ago... How'd that work out for them? Facebook does not have business model that can support Zuckerbergs $7B valuation... just proves how stupid some investors are, nothing more. Unless he convinces FaceBook users to allow "Ads" his business model collapses... And that will be the end of Facebook.
Go to Buy.com and see them ask you to sign in using FaceBook... and if you do you're a moron, since everyone on your list gets pestered with unwanted spam and ads when they're browsing? This will fail as well as counter efforts will be made to keep ones privacy.
