Acer's 4.8" Android Smartphone Pushes The Limits Into Tablet Territory

Acer's in the smartphone business. Did you know that? If you pay close attention to this industry you probably did, but up until now Acer hasn't had a really killer phone to rival the N8, iPhone or the DROID lineup. But this 4.8" smartphone/tablet looks like it could be Acer's way into the hearts of smartphone buyers. The 4.8" screen puts it near the territory of Dell's 5" Streak, but this unit has a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it long, thin and great for watching movies.


It also has one of the highest screen resolutions for a phone to date: 1024x480 pixels. It will ship with a full metal body, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, HDMI output, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and HSDPA 3G support. It will run some version of Android, but there's a Feb. 2011 ship date -- that likely means that the next major revision of Android will be on here. Acer claims that this unit is 100% smartphone and 100%  tablet, but there's no price to help us see if it's 200% of the price of a smartphone. A good looking device, that's for sure.
