SLI and CrossfireX Question

If you have a game or application in CrossfireX or SLI that does not have profile, how would the cards split the rendering? I ask because I plan on getting two 6870s, and I want to use them (amongst other things) for SmalluxGPU and Blender; since they probably don't have a built-in profile, I'd like to know if they will only be able to use one GPU or if the drivers will default to something like AFR or supertileing.

I think multi-gpus  work like SFR,and  multi-cards work like AFR,it means A card render frame one and B card render frame tow,but the frame buffer of each cards also have to load all datas like the use a single card ~
