It was just a couple of days ago that Skype introduced its Skype for Android app, and there was much rejoicing. But U.S. users were singularly blocked from using Skype over 3G networks, except Verizon users. American Android users could only use it via Wi-Fi even though folks in other nations had no such restrictions (although the app isn't available in China or Japan). Until now. Someone named Matt, AKA "xeudoxus" has posted a modified version of the app on Droid Forums.

Matt has promised more hacks to unlock other restricted Android apps including Blackboard Mobile Learn, which was locked to Sprint, and SprintTV also locked to Sprint. He and "Team Dark Edge" have earned the grateful thanks of many Android owners for unlocking Verizon's NFL Mobile app, too.

The Skype for Android hack is a sideload program, too, meaning users don't have to root their phone. They use the Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine, a method for putting apps on your phone without going through the official app store but that doesn't void the phone's warranty. The Sideloader is a Windows application that lets you load apps into your phone from your PC via a USB cable. It can be used with any Android device, on any carrier, without the Android SDK installed.

I really wanna get me an Android device. One of the guys from my TF2 community jumped in vent from his phone the other day. Stuff like this never pops up for my Ipod Touch. Then again I don't have a cell phone and I won't get tied into one of those contracts so I guess I'll wait it out and snag up a nice tablet some time.
