On Friday morning, during the iPhone 4 press conference, one person in the audience noted that he couldn't get the "death grip" to work with his BlackBerry Bold 9700. The reason, answered Apple CEO Steve Jobs, was the fact that the signal was strong on the Apple Campus. More than that, it was strong not just for AT&T devices.
“We’ve got a strong signal here. We have both AT&T and Verizon towers on campus.”
It was an offhanded comment, but while people have long known there's an AT&T tower on the Apple campus, knowledge of a Verizon tower came as a surprise to many.  We heard it ourselves, but it took time to sink in.

We've long said that's when you will know a Verizon iPhone is coming: when there's a Verizon tower on Apple's campus. While that's no guarantee that a Verizon iPhone is coming, the signs of an iPhone coming to Verizon seem pretty strong right now.

In particular, the generousity of AT&T with regards to early upgrades to the iPhone 4 was supremely suspicious. Why be so magnanimous, after all? If they are about to lose exclusivity, that would be a reason.

We'll see; our guess for the last few months has been that a Verizon iPhone will appear in Q1 2011.

I don't think this means much. Carriers commonly share tower space.

When *exactly* was the Verizon access installed? Probably years ago, when they were first competing with AT&T for an iPhone exclusivity deal.  Just because this is the first we heard about it doesn't mean it's new or was even installed at the request of Apple.

yeah the At&t tower is GSM the Verizon is CDMA broadcast methods. These are also the only two specs used generally for consumer cellular devices. If it was a 4G Verizon only tower I could see the point. If you interpret it like that it means that Sprint won't be getting a Apple device because they use Wimax, it would also mean Apple will never have a LTE (4G) device ever because they have no towers for that either. If you wanted to you could even say that because of these things Apple will never make a 4G device. All of this is just summation of information though and means nothing.

Every week an article comes out about this stupidity. It's getting really boring... I'm to the point that only few people are so interested in iPhone going to verizon. Nobody spend 24/7 with their phone. Since I left the USA nobody outside the states cares about this so called war. I have an iPhone 3GS 32g white with Orange and is not jailbreak. I'm back for few weeks in states and I have a choice to use either AT&T or Tmobile. And since my data roaming is off I don't get charge for data which good :) then again there is a wifi spot in my Michigan house an in almost every corner. So why use data? Why have data plans? In other countries they have data plans that is similar to what AT&T is offering I just don't understand the whole fuzz is about find a wifi spot which you know they are everywhere and watch your freaking YouTube or what else that you do but stop whining about it...

That is my 2 cent :) have a great weekend everyone

This is just one horse that refuses to die, I'm tired of seeing reports like if the iPhone is headed to Verizon without any concrete evidence, what I'm trying to figure out is why don't they do it like the RAZR and make it available to mostly every character, it's more money for apple and much more happiness and carrier choice for us because it's a win/win situation.

So someone whips out a competitor's mobile device at an Apple conference... and Rainbow Steve doesn't grab it and crush it underfoot? The nerve of that guy!
