You know, it's not often we get to bestow upon you words of pure wisdom.  Sure, we provide detailed, timely news, product and technology analysis but really, we're not in the business of covering your backside.  That's what Moms are for or your personal Wingman or Wingwoman, as the case may be.  That said, we'll give you a bit of advice for this fine Friday... If you see a dude dressed up like this and looking seriously pleased about it, coming your way, we'd suggest you run (don't walk) the other way.  Let's see if your instincts are in proper attenuation tonight. Can you tell us, who is the MAN in the middle of this fab tour shot?

They're like Gangstas but geekier... Who's the man in the middle with his hands on the prize baby?!

Let's zoom in... The rest of this crowd is far too rambunctious for their ground straps.  I mean, someone is going to get hurt if they gave that wafer to the wrong guy (it's got to be worth a few pesos)... but who could it be?

Wait just a dog-gone minute... We recognize that suave and debonair look... That "get-back" stare...  that "he must be stopped!" sense of urgency.  We know who it is and we're not giving him up.  He's one of us... You tell us.  We're not sayin'...  Nope, our lips are sealed.

Not sure who it is but he looks pretty 'dope' in that suit! Are you sure that mask will keep the germs from getting out or are they 'conducting' an experiment? It looks 'wafer' thin! How did he 'deposit' himself in that clean room? I'm not sure how much he is 'etching' to be in there he looks only 'semi' excited!

PS - My guess is Mat

Hmm. Dave's a bit too fair-haired to be the subject (those are some serious eyebrows happenin'). Also, he said "nope," actually he said it twice, which would also seem to rule out Marco Chiappetta... but I pasted his (Marco's) avatar onto the photo and came up pretty close.

Let's see who's left. I added to the names we know from the by-lines by looking at the staff bios page for this list:

  • Daniel Begun. "Dog-gone" was mentioned in the article, and his bio mentions his "dog-walking earnings."
  • Michael Santo. A possibility; the nose looks similar, though he obviously had some eyebrow work done for the avatar photo.
  • Jennifer Johnson, Amy Vernon. Nope, the Mystery Man was identified as a "man."
  • Rob Maloney. Nope, eyebrows are far too narrow.
  • Michael Lin. A definite maybe: the "playing guitar" reference could lend meaning to "our lips are sealed" and "get back" attitude.
  • Gregory Sullivan. Probably not; there'd be more references to his comedy routines and John Madden football.
  • Shawn Oliver. No biography either on the About page or his user page.
  • Joel Hruska. Ditto.
  • Shane Unrein. Has something of an About page bio, but nothing stuck out. His last post was January 8... maybe he's been traveling to fabrication centers?

The last three either didn't have anything in their profiles that stood out... or didn't have profiles. I took a look at the HTML source of the article (something I learned to do while playing The Matrix Online; an occasional clue was buried in the source of the mundane newspaper articles) but no.

So I'm going with Michael Lin, who I have to admit an unfamiliarity with, but if you want me to really start investigating these mugs it'll cost you. I get $200 a day, plus expenses (same as Jim Rockford).

Mat? Mat who what huh? Was there a Mat in that photo? I'm going to have to stare at it a lot longer to see if I can find him. I'll get back to you. (I just want to know who got to spray-paint those costumes on.)

The zebra girl's face paint reminds me of that mug shot picture of a guy who had been huffing gold spray paint.

There's a nanotech lab that I walk by on the way to class on most days, I see these white suits through the window all the time. I've always wanted to go inside one, but they probably make you shave your body hair...

yup especially in a Bio lab. I was wondering about that looking at the white suits pick to. I mean I know it's not exactly a bio lab, but if everyone has to wear suits? Why would you not have to do the same there. It is obvious you don't though because he has on no mask.

I'm guessing they have to wear goggles too, maybe that's why their suit doesn't cover their face?

You know...I would like to get my hands on one of those suits for halloween!

I would also like one for Haloween, or just wearing about town (hey, I dress in 19th century garb on a regular basis, a clean room suit is nothing).

However, I'd prefer it to be yellow and have the word "DEVO" stenciled on the chest.

The suits don't usually cover the eyes, but in the most clean of clean rooms they probably would have safety glasses/goggles on. Usually though they aren't needed because eyes don't generally emit particles into the air. (unless you have sweet laser beam or x-ray eyes)

It would be awesome to see a clean room and the process of them making processors. That would be awesome.

sure, hair (from eyelashes or eyebrows) or dead skin can fall off, it just doesn't usually happen unless you try (aka rubbing your eyes or something).

Indeed, goggles or masks covering your eye area would be keeping stuff out rather than in. One reason why surgeons wear goggles during operations...to avoid blood splatter.

Now is that a 32nm or a 45nm wafer he's holding?

You would probably not be able to get in the door of an airthight lab that easy.

a lab such as this would have a manned entrance and at least a dual door system so not a just walk in type place.
