this is a sweet setup!

A kick ass flight simulator game would be sic on this!

But I'd rather kill some zombies with those screens in L4D2

Wow, one 5970 can handle the max resolution on Arkham Asylum? Sweet! Really, watching you plan on the triple 20" screen was like a theatrical experience.

yeah the 5800 series really, but the 5970 will handle anything out period and handle it well. When Nvidia drops there new card it better be a barn burner.

Nvidia has the 3D surround technology that they showed at CES, so they do have a response to Eyefinity in the works.

Now that is gorgeous!! I couldn't tell if some of the lag was in the video or just my computer.

Anyone thinking that three 30" Dell screens aren't worth it need to see that benchmark. Can't wait to see how it looks with a second 5970 in there!

Wow thats a nice setup. I still don't know if I would like it though. I think one large monitor would do as good of a job specifically with gaming. I could see the benefit of peripheral vision, but your brain automatically pays less attention to the peripheral vision that it would a singular display.

It would be quite expensive, but the immersion with the two side screens would be amazing. It's all about occupying more of your field of vision to bring you closer to the action.

Yeah I can see that, but I have noticed when I play games I focus to specific screen areas. Then I can (when there is no action going on), stop and obeserve the whole screen and see the positive and negative aspects. However if I was playing a game on 3 monitors the outside 2 would be largely unused just by the way vision and a brain works.

I'm thinking that it'd be sweet if there was another monitor above the others (or double tall screens) and make the resolution even tighter, but then again he might die from such sheer wicked awesomeness when it was turned on!

That would look quite EPIC indeed.

Going forward, we'll start seeing skinnier bezels on monitors to accommodate this technology.

Mitsubishi makes some huge LCD TVs with bezels thinner than most monitors... less than half an inch I think. Just imagine 3 60" panels for some serious gaming sessions!

A 1080 LCD TV would be able to display 1920x1080 resolution. If we suppose that the refresh rate and response time is acceptable, stretching that resolution out over 42" and you're bound to lose a lot of detail. The 30" Dell monitor has 2560 × 1600 resolution, twice the number of pixels as a 42 inch LCD TV. The Dell 3007WFP-HC 30 inch Widescreen display will run you around $1400. The ones that RA1D has cost around $1700 each, about the same as a fully featured 55" LED HDTV (a notch above regular LCD TV's).

As long as you're sitting a ways away from it, I guess it wouldn't matter too much.

You are right that a 4870 is powerful enough to run most games with anti-aliasing but you probably aren't running a 3 monitor eyefinity setup like he is. (a 48xx series doesn't have eyefinity support iirc)

no mount yet, but i've been playing around w/ 5970 crossfire and the performance scaling is weak at best.  i'll keep testing though..

at least my corsair hx1000w psu is holding up!
