I built a System in 2005. Intel server board with 2 single core Xeons @ 3.8 GHz, 4 GHz DDR2 RAM. Nice. It can and is running Windows 7 nice. One day I KNOW I'll have to upgrade! Maybe I'll wait for the new 32 nanometer chips! I have heard they will have 6 cores. Anyway I can probably make due with this bad boy for a while more. Just don't have extra to buy new hardware at this time. This system does everything I need it to anyway.
They're not yet 32nm, but AMD has 6 core chips out. 12 core will be out sooner then you think too. There's someone out there with 2x12 core AMD CPUs for a whopping 24 cores. But 2 cores at 3.8GHz is still great for most users.
