HI all
I have a bit of a problem. I recently purchased the Intel i7 950 processor for my home machine which is primarily used
for gaming purposes. Accidentally, I was sent the new Xeon X5570 process (which is considerably more expensive than the
processor I ordered). The retailer has told me that I may keep the Xeon processor if I wish, however i'm not sure how suitable
it is for gaming. I guess my question is simply, will the Xeon X5570 perform for gaming purposes as well as a standard i7 950?
Anyone got any ideas?
ThanksTom
Wow, that's some deal you got there...
The answer is yes, the Xeon X5570 should work just fine--it's based on the same architecture. As long as your motherboard has the correct BIOS support, you should be good to go.

HI again,
Thanks for the fast response. I guess what Im tryig to find out is which processor will give the best performance between the Xeon X5570 and I7 950. Any ideas? Maybe a link to benchmark results or something?
Thanks again!
Tom
From the best information I can find, you're on a comperable processor. In terms of a benchmark, the closest I've found is here: http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/cpu/intel-ci7-950-p2.html. The best I can gather, there's not much difference. Given the price difference and your circumstances, I'd stick with the Xeon.
