the big problem is even if the devices have the same connectors for charging/synching can they be charged via that connector? I've used a lot of phones which had mini USB connectors but couldn't be charged via USB unless a driver was installed on the system. others I've seen which had the same connector on the phone but were from different cellular companies and one could be charged via USB while the other could not, needed the special charger with the usb plug from that cellular provider.

For What Its Worth, its 2012 Apple will be using a new dock connector for the next iPhone. Most smart phones charge via MicroUSB but we still have stuff coming out with proprietary connectors.
