Drago:

Yeah i remember those days, and i think part of the reason why those members are gone now is due to the forum change that went from a nice streamlined forum with easy quick reply box at the bottom and speedy even on dialup to this slow and sluggish wanabe forum that tries to do so much and aint real great at all that it does.  IMO this forum is a step down from what HH had.  Sure the main page and the articles and the nice interlinking features with the forum are nice, but its just extra foo foo whistles and bells that us guys from 04 had no need for.  If you guys remember, we were all about maximizing performance not only by hardware, but also by tweaking our OSes, and software to run faster.  I remember when we had weekly posts in the tweaks and performance enhancments forum about new things to speed your stuff up.

I was saddened and put off on the new forum, but i use it here and there, but not like i used to, it just takes to long to wait for the pages to load, then i have to hit the reply button, wait 5 min for the reply page to load, then i can rant and rave about whatever, then post.  So most of the time i read the main articles, then reply to them and thats about it, the other tech forums i frequent i seem to post more due to more dialup and content driven forums.

I still enjoy doing what i did back when, but my patience for stupid people is running out, i have enough of them to deal with when im at work, so now i try to stay out of that for my own self health lol.

I couldn't agree more about the interface, I liked what we had then.  I too miss the tweaks, which is primarily all I still look for these days, which I generally seek elsewhere.

Well, hopefully it's accurate but to be honest, I'm not convinced it is.  We have dual web front end servers and a load balancer here.  I think the software gets out of synch with the count sometimes.

Wow Drago.  Guess we never knew you felt that way about the new software.  We think this package blows away the old package in terms of interface and features, though we agree it isn't as fast as we'd like.  We're going to look at ways of speeding it up in the future.

Nope, it has been there but maybe we'll bold it and or somehow make it more visible.

Just wondering Dave, what happened to the users online status at the bottom of the forums?

Hey Tank,

I turned it off again because it was grossly inaccurate and I'd rather not have it on if it's not keeping track correctly.  Since we have to web front end servers that are load balance, the software gets confused and doesn't keep track of sessions properly.  Then it looks like there is no one on line hardly and it's not correct.  I've been logged in myself (I always am) and refreshed the page, only to see it show me as not on line.

I'm going to talk to our developer and Telligent (the folks that make the Community Server forum software) and see what can be done.

Thanks

I honestly don't use it. I have a bookmark right to my not yet read, but it would be cool to know that one of the guys is on if someone newer needs help. Like if SuperDave is on I know I'm getting a good linkWink I did look at it when I was on and it showed me there most of the time, but at least once it did show me offline.

LOL you guys crack me up. I remember the old HH. I liked it. It's what got me here. Took some getting used to the new HH but I am pretty happy with it. I can understand some of the grypes like the issues Drago was talking about. I wonder if HH did like a watered down version or dial up freindly version. Maybe we can keep Drago around and get him more active and just maybe some of the oldies will come back that I remember from when I joined. Sorta like office live mail if anyone uses it. When they updated it you had an option to still use the older version if your computer had trouble with the newer version. Oh and even the old birthday and online users bar on the old HH wasn't completley accurate. It always missed my BirthdaySad

I've noticed artifacts of this before (descending reply counts on page reload).  Exactly how are you guys load balancing?  Is it simply DNS round-robin, the Microsoft flavor, or via an appliance?

People read the stupidest things.  Like this sig, for instance.

It's via a load balancer, round-robin weighting.  The Community Server app isn't too slick with it, to be honest.
