Hi Everyone!
I was just wondering why the main forum index doesn't show the names of the users currently online at the bottom (like some other forums). We can only see the number of users online, not actually who is online. I think we should be able to (it'd be nice to see who was on for a change).
Thanks and have a Happy New Year!

That is a very good point, Tanka. I can see that there are 3 members and 264 visitors cruising the website, but I don't know of any way to see who the members are!

Thanks, now we need more members to post here and help raise this point with Dave and Marco.
We would need a be private option though in case you just wanted to browse without being seen. Wouldn't mind knowing when people are on though.
I dont care if people know that I am on line. I think it use to be there back in the day, there was also a birthday thing at the bottom as well

Then I think Dave and Marco should bring it back
I don't mind if people know I am online, even if it is 24/7.
Exactly what I was thinking. On most forums you can see who is online, but in the USER CP settings you can change it to be private, or invisible.
yeah we had that back in the day, i had a request to bring it back awhile ago.... i think the answer i got was the forum software doesnt support it or something along those lines..... though im not sure so dont quote me on this

You should ask Dave that! I hope it does support online users.
I'll throw my hat in for this idea also. I like it.
People read the stupidest things. Like this sig, for instance.
For those of you who were around in '04, you will remeber this feature used to be integrated in the site, it also told you of birthdays...

I remember. lol Your post made me search for some old posts. Do a search for happy birthday 2003-2005. Everyone would make a happy birthday thread for others. That was nice.
I do remember those threads and I'm also a little saddened at the loss of so many of the members from around then.

Yeah. A lot of those guys are the reason I am into computers today.
^indeed, that was a good bunch back in the day. And the B-day threads were fun as well. Alas they like the old members have gone.... :(
Hey Guys,
We had this in place and then found it to be very inaccurate due to the dual web front end servers we have here and the counts not synching. I can look into it again though.
Thanks!

You should look into it. I'd like it alot if we could see who is on.
Yeah i remember those days, and i think part of the reason why those members are gone now is due to the forum change that went from a nice streamlined forum with easy quick reply box at the bottom and speedy even on dialup to this slow and sluggish wanabe forum that tries to do so much and aint real great at all that it does. IMO this forum is a step down from what HH had. Sure the main page and the articles and the nice interlinking features with the forum are nice, but its just extra foo foo whistles and bells that us guys from 04 had no need for. If you guys remember, we were all about maximizing performance not only by hardware, but also by tweaking our OSes, and software to run faster. I remember when we had weekly posts in the tweaks and performance enhancments forum about new things to speed your stuff up.
I was saddened and put off on the new forum, but i use it here and there, but not like i used to, it just takes to long to wait for the pages to load, then i have to hit the reply button, wait 5 min for the reply page to load, then i can rant and rave about whatever, then post. So most of the time i read the main articles, then reply to them and thats about it, the other tech forums i frequent i seem to post more due to more dialup and content driven forums.
I still enjoy doing what i did back when, but my patience for stupid people is running out, i have enough of them to deal with when im at work, so now i try to stay out of that for my own self health lol.

I've just noticed, you can see who's onine at the botom of the forums now. It looks great! Thanks Dave!
What do you guys think about it?
