    Western Digital or Seagate?

    Hi Everyone!

I saw the Mac vs PC thread earlier today and thought why not make a Western Digital or Seagate Thread...So here it is!

I'll vote Western Digital because they focus alot more on quality and performance (even though I have a Seagate HDD), Caviar Black and Velociraptor could beat Seagate any day!

So what do you guy's think....Western Digital or Seagate? (Feel free to chose another company like Samsung or Hitachi)

    POLL

    WESTERN DIGITAL - 6 - 60%

    SAMSUNG - 2 - 20%

    SEAGATE - 2 - 20%

    HITACHI - 0 - 0%

    Thanks,

    Tanka12345

    Re: Western Digital or Seagate?

I would go for Western Digital due to the high failure rate of Seagate drives i have encountered the last few years.  WD has come a long way in terms of high performance, quietness of the drives, and good temps.  Seagate was doing very well, but they have just gone to crap as of late.

I'm going to vote seagate. Had a drive go bad under a year old that WD claims is out of it 5 year warranty.

Ha ha. I have a WD in my PC right now. The warranty thing has left a bad taste in my mouth considering I have recommended WD for there 5 year warranty.

Since the Seagate drive in my laptop recently died I am a little down on Seagate at the moment. I like Western Digital drives a lot...and I have a lot of them! I even have an old Maxtor ATA133 drive that has served me well. And speaking of Maxtor, read what happened to them when they were purchased by Seagate in 2006 right HERE. I bet I know how those laid-off employees would answer your question, tanka12345!

    Re: Western Digital or Seagate?

That's sad for the employees who lost their jobs [:'(] Seagate just focuses on profits and market share, not quality and reliablilty like WD. WD also take care of their employees.

Thanks for you opinion Super Dave!

I read that original LA Times article back in May 2006 when it was first printed and it actually startled me with it's brutally-honest corporate revelation!

To be honest I never really thought about other manufacturers like Samsung.Embarrassed You can post you opinion on others if you like, but could you also say which one you like better: Western Digital or Seagate.

    Thanks

    Re: Western Digital or Seagate?

Can you still add polls to the opening post? If so you should add one: between WD, Seagate, Samsung, and Hitachi.

i have always been a Samsung guy for my desktops also -- uber silent drives and pretty well performing

    Hi Ice,

Thats a great idea! Unfortunately there seems to be no poll option, but I'll make a manual poll instead!
