Well, Wal-Mart may be having trouble keeping up with iTunes as far as being the top music retailer, but it doesn't have iTunes as a competitor among video games.  Thus, we are where we are ...

eMarketer.com conducted a survey of 2,000 gamers aged 12 to 54, dubbed "Are You Game?" It found that Wal-Mart was the most visited retailer for video games, with Best Buy and GameStop tied for second.  The margin was 8%, a pretty large margin, as you can see below.

After those three comes Target, and then Circuit City and Amazon, tied.  Yes, the "I'm closing 155 stores" Circuit City, you've got it; still decently high in the rankings.

So, based on this, not only is Wal-Mart the world's biggest retailer, it's the world's biggest gaming retailer.  On the other hand, we'd sure like to see a survey like this broken up with sales tax taken into account.  Places like California, with a high sales tax, might skew differently.

What about you HH readers?  What's your retailer of choice?

Gamestop always. This really surprises me. In ym area Wal-Marts ahve demo games but either the console is off, controller are dead or the sticks are broken off.  So we can't even paly any games in store. To me that says they can't mantain a system then how will the quality of their game will be. I mean of course during shipping and handling of course, since they are behind a glass window.

That makes sense. I buy from steam or walmart. I use to go to EB Games, but since GameStop bought them they PC games get poor treatment. Its a little shelf in the back of random games with no prices.

But there are over 16 million Steam subscribers, and growing.

I've bought most of my games at Walmart and a few from Bestbuy and Futureshop(which is owned by BB).  I'm thinking of getting a few more games off Steam now, since I finally have a decent download speed...I used to be stuck with dialup.

In the past year or so, I've noticed all the major stores(Best Buy, Futureshop, Walmart) have been putting less attention into PC games, while the console game aisles are packed.  When Crysis Warhead launched, Bestbuy didn't get the PC game out on the shelf until 3 days after the launch date.  I ended up looking at Walmart and found one copy...which I bought right away.  Has anyone else noticed the same thing, where the shelves in the PC game aisles are starting to look too barren?

Steam is huge, true, but it only covers PC games and even then not quite all of them.  Console games sell the most so overall I wouldn't expect Steam to make the list.

I'll do Gamestop since it's the only place on campus and also for pre-orders.  But if I'm at home and didn't pre-order I'll usually check Wal-Mart first because they usually make their games around 5 to 18 cents cheaper then anywhere else.  Hey, it's the closest store for driving and combined with a few pennies it's worth it.

Lol, I have bought at Wally world for years for one reason. They match any retailers price as long as it's within Atlanta metro. Sometimes they'll even beat the price by a percentage but thats off and on. So I check the local retailers online or by phone go to Walmart and they either match or beat the price.

I usually go to walmart, it's a few bucks cheaper, plus it's closer. They have a decent selection also. Someone had said that Gamestop gives no love to PC, that is completly true. You can barely find a major tiltle on their shelves around here, and if there is one it's mixed in with some no name games and they are never in alphabetical order. Unfortunaltely my circuit city is closing because they have a huge wall of pc games, alway kept organized, and a nice selection too.

This is my Sig. There are many like it but this one is mine.

OIIIIIIIIO
