    Vista 64-bit & iTunes

So my friend commented me on Facebook and told me that he is having problems getting iTunes to install on his computer. I know it is 64-bit for sure and I think it is Vista Business. He is telling me that when he tries installing it, an error message pops up that says this:

"The window installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. contact your support personnel for assistance."

He told me he called Apple and that they were absolutely no help at all.

Is anyone else having this problem? What is the solution to this annoying problem?

I think they have a 64 bit version now so look for that and if that doesnt work is more than likely because hes runing Vista business Edition. Tell him to go for Home premium or Vista ultimate if he needs all the business features and multimedia features too. Yeh it is annoying. I miss the old days when it was all in one. One big complaint I have about Vista is they should be two versions, pro and home.

So why is iTunes incompatible with Vista Business? Is there something I can change (like an option) to make it work. Is there some way to work around this obstacle. Would be much better than buying a OS, even if it is OEM. Doesn't seem worth it to pay $100 or so just to use iTunes.

I dont know all the specifics. I just know that Business edition has a lot of the multimedia stuff cut out of it.  I have found that some multi media apps just plain dont work. However, just to be sure make sure you have downloaded the lastest Direct X www.microsoft.com/directx and then download the latest itunes for 64bit vista here. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ Oh and make sure you have installed service pack 1 if it isnt already installed.

I hope that works for you.

    Update

He said he cleaned his registry files or something. He can now install it and everything works fine. Thanks for the help everyone.
