23-year-old Kelly Gray was just hoping to defray some of the costs of
her wedding when she decided to auction off a bridesmaid spot in her
wedding on eBay. But she got far more than she bargained for.

When the bidding closed at 7:27 p.m. on Wednesday, the winning bid was $5,700. The winner: "drpeppersnapple".

Gray
and her fiance had planned to keep the wedding budget under $7,000 by
using an iPod, instead of a DJ and baking their own wedding cake. Now
they can plan for something a bit bigger.

A representative for Dr. Pepper Snapple Group says they'll even provide drinks for the April 19, 2009 wedding.

They also plan to launch a Website to find Kelly a bridesmaid, or possibly even provide a surprise guest for the position.

Let's hope the bride and groom don't prefer Coke.

eBay seems to be the middle man for helping a lot of people out.....I should start an auction saying "I am a poor college kid, I will accept donations via PayPal" and see if anything happens........do you guys think it'd work?

This lady sounds like my kinda girl anyway -- iPods, baking their own cake; BRILLIANT! Perhaps she should just make a wedding dress out of duct tape like kids do at proms.......

I think it's kinda twisted. I understand about saving on costs and all but why would you do something like this unless the woman had no friends to be a bridsmaid to begin with. Me and my fiance are really cutting corners on our wedding to mainly due to the location. getting married in HAwaii has it's own set of costs so we found other ways of cutting corners like the ipod instaed of the DJ. We are doing a very informal reception back home when we get back. I am talking paper placements and people bringing dishes no catering service at all. In fact our ceremony will only costs us about 750. Of course it's only a whopping 20 min deal on a public beach. No tuxes or fancy dresses either. the biggest cost for us is airfare.

WOW That's about the coolest thing ever. I can't believe someone in the marketing division there got that approved. Very amusing.
