One thing I notice about LinkedIn, if you search it for the company you work for you get all the people who are searching for jobs on company time and by looking through their activity can figure out if they are really looking for work. You can then easily call them in the office for a meeting. Most of the folks who have active profiles are flighty according to a few managers I've spoken with and should be avoided unless you want to be replacing them in 6 months - 1 year.
I went on an interview a few weeks ago and was asked about my social networking profiles, I answered her with a simple if I spend that much time messing with social networks how will I have time to do the job @ hand. She agreed after thinking it over.
