Moving into a new apartment in 2 weeks and I have been slowly putting together a (in my eyes) decent home theater setup. I just purchased the centerpiece (SAMSUNG LN46A550) for this setup yesterday. Thanks to employee discounts I got it for an extremely reasonable price! The only problem is that I have to sit and stare at a box for 2 weeks.... Sad

I opted for the 550 because I wasn't too worried about 120hz as I didn't figured I would do a whole lot of PC gaming on the set and quite frankly didn't see any other reason as to how it could effectively be put into use. LITTLE less contrast ratio than its new-gen brother but again didn't see that this would be worth the extra $500 I would have had to spend...other than that the current gen 650 and this are pretty much the same....

Haha sorry I was just excited and had to tell everyone.....

I have the 32" version of that... 1080p is soooo crisp and the contrast ratio is awesome!

alot of people have complained about the 120hz versions saying that they don't look realistic. IMO the 120hz makes a huge difference adding alot of dimension to the picture. Even playing standard dvd's or hdtv there is a huge difference between the 120hz and 60hz models. As far as the 1080p you really don't take advantage unless your playing Blue ray but the 120hz you can see the effect on all the standards of media. Still it is an excellent TV no doubt.

I guess perhaps I do not understand quite how there would be a quality-increase as I was under the impression that the only noticable plus was from PC output to the TV as video cards can take advantage of the 120Hz whereas little else does...

Could you give me your opinion nelson? I know your at a HT bufff.....OH and also nelson gimme your pick for best quality BD player

My only experience with the 120hz TV's is the one my parents purchased several months back. I didn't even know they had exisited at the time. I have watched alot on theirs since they got it and to tell you the truth it has made a big difference over other LCD's I have seen viewing any media standard. I have watched Blue Rays, standard DVD's, SDTV and HDTV on their set and all look alot more 3 dimensional then any other LCD or HDTV that I have seen. I suspect it has to be from the 120hz refresh rate somehow but like you said I would only think the pc could take advantage of that. I just know what I have seen. others I have talked to do not care for the more 3 dimensional look saying it looks like your in the stage with them. The actors stand out alot more than the background then normal. Me personally, I think it is awesome and my next purchase will be 1 of these sets with the 120hz refresh rate. You really have to look at it in the store to appreciate what I am talking about. The 1080p with the BLue rays give you more detail in your picture and I think the refresh rate gives it the more 3d look to it.

All I can say is go up to sears and take a look at the sets they have and you will see what I mean. As far as Blue Ray players, I don't own one personally but my parents do. I think they got an older model cause they have had lots of problems with movies not working and having to send movies back. Check the model # of the player before you buy and mkae sure it's not 1 of the original generation players as they have problems with newer discs.

I gotta check me out one of the new fancy 120Hz TVs.  Though I have heard they are bad for gaming, especially console gaming.

Retail is ~$1,700 i believe but I am a vedy vedy sneaky guy so I just said "I don't like that price you gimme it for cheaper NOW!!" and of course they complied (haha jk jk)

Nelson, I have seen the 120hz TVs at bby and I can see the how they compare with 60hz but the display is using doctored up rendered-dvd cutscenes so I didn't really buy into it....but I guess since you have experienced it first hand I will take you at your word! :p
