Woke up this morning with no video.

I woke up this morning and went to check my email.  When I moved the mouse, the monitor didn't wake.  I rebooted and still nothing.  I turned it off for a few minutes and then back on but still nothing, not even a post screen.  I can only access my computer through remote desktop.  I tried plugging the cable into the other DVI slot, but still no luck.

I Don't have another DVI cable to test with, nor do I have another monitor or video card to test.  My monitor's works with VGA.

    Any suggestions?

Thcard is receiving power and it's fanless. I only have one pcie16x slot. I'm going to purchase the cheapest pcie16x card I can find and test it, I'll reoport the results.

EDIT**  Local stores are priced too high, ordering online now.

I didn't shut down last night, it was running. The monitor shuts off after 20 minutes of inactivity.  I was encoding a video which generates a lot of heat, but I've encoded many times in the past without incident.

nada, boots normally just no video.  I find it hard to believe that my video card could just burn out overnight with no stress.

try resetting the bios (with removing battery for 4 min) then boot, and if ur card needs exteral power try switching cables

Did you say your monitor works when hooked up with a VGA cable? If I am reading your original post right then I am assuming it works with your vid card and a vga to dvi adapter with a vga cable. if that's the case then it sounds like the dvi port on the monitor went out as strange as it sounds. did I read into that right?

Re: Woke up this morning with no video.

Yes, my monitor works when hooked up to VGA.  However, the VGA is through another computer, not the one that stopped working.  So right now I know that the VGA on my monitor works, and that's about it.  I don't have another DVI video card to test the monitor with, so I can't tell if it's the monitor or not.  I think the only option right not is to test my rig with another video card.

Let me clarify one thing: you say you can still access the PC remotely? meaning that the PC is obviously still booting and running but no display.......

If this is the case I would say most certainly it seems to be a video card issue or possibly (worst case) a bad slot on the mobo.

If I mis-read it and you are not getting the PC to boot then you can always just try to re-seat the RAM and re-seat the video card also, sounds dumb but has worked for me many times

yes, you understood correctly.  The computer is still booting and running.  The replacement video card I ordered is on it's way as I type, so I'll know today weather it's the video card or not.  I pray to god it's not the mobo :(

Well, I just installed the new video card and still no output.  I guess the only explanation is a bad slot?

That is quite true. Years ago I installed a new video card in my son's PC. When I put his rig back together there was no sound! My son was mad at me as I tried for hours to get his onboard sound working again. The longer I worked the more frustrated I got. I figured I must have zapped something when I installed the video card and now I would have to purchase an add-in sound card to get everything right. Finally I just happened to notice that the green audio plug I had installed in his PC was from an EXTRA SET OF SPEAKERS BEING STORED UNDER HIS DESK - they weren't even plugged into the wall socket or powered ON! Estupido me. I plugged-in the correct plug and the sound was restored!
