EA Releases Cell Phase Spore Video Preview

EA has released a video preview of the "Cell Phase" of Spore--the hotly-anticipated brainchild of Sim's creator Will Wright. The video shows vivid samples of what a game player might experience when first starting out with a new creature in the first phase of the game, called the "Cell Phase" or "Tide Pool Phase."

Spore is "an epic journey that takes you from the origin and evolution of life through the development of civilization and technology and eventually all the way into the deepest reaches of outer space."

The game is made up of five phases:

    Tide Pool Phase
Fight with other creatures and consume them to adjust the form and abilities of your creature. It's survival of the fittest at the most microscopic level.

    Creature Phase
Venture onto land and help your creature learn and evolve with forays away from your nest. The only way to grow is by taking chances!

    Tribal Phase
Instead of controlling an individual creature, you are now caring for an entire tribe. Give them tools and guide their interactions as you upgrade their state of existence.

    Civilization Phase
Once your city is established, your creatures begin seeking out and interacting with other cultures. Make contact with an olive branch or a war cry. The goal for your creatures is to conquer the planet.

    Space Phase
The time has come to move on to other worlds in your solar system. Make contact, colonize, or terraform, then venture further to find other solar systems. A 'mission' structure provides new goals in your quest for galactic dominance.

EA has also announced that the official release date of Spore in U.S. will be September 7th. The Spore Creature Creator is still on schedule for a June 17 release.

This is the video FSeven posted too.  I'll admit it did increase my interest in Spore, but I'm still waiting for more before I jump on the bandwagon full speed ahead.

Oh, man. I've been on the bandwagon since I saw that first pirated video out of a closed door conference. I was afraid EA might ruin it somehow, but considering that they held it back so long, I think they did the right thing.

Actually, you bring up a good point.  They're not rushing it.  As much as long delays suck, I'm often grateful for them if it means a better product.  It's also good news since EA acquired Bioware and hopefully they won't rush Mass Effect 2.  I wouldn't say the first game was rushed per se, but it could have used more time.  At least the evil EA has one admirable thing.  But who knows if it'll apply to ME2, or any other game for that matter.  They may yet zerg rush us with unfinished products...
