    SATA drive

    My brother has reformatted his PC and put windows XP back on.  The drive that windows is on is IDE (C drive).  Since reformatting the PC his second hard drive which is a SATA drive is not being recognised.  It is not being recognised in the BIOS either.   All the cables are correct.

    What do I need to do to get windows to recognise the SATA drive?  The SATA drive contains important information that cannot be lost so the fix cannot including reformatting the drive.

    Motherboard = Chaintech 7NJS

    SATA drive =  Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 model ST380013A8

    The PC does not have a floppy drive.  Has a CD player and DVD re-writer.

    Re: SATA drive

    My computer has had a problem with the SATA HDD ever since I built it 2 years ago.  It sometimes (maybe 50/50) won't recognize it when I turn it on.  So after I get an error in bios that I can't boot, I just hit the reset button.  Then, it works.  I really don't know if that would work for you, but try resetting after you see that bios hasn't detected it.  I also have a Seagate (7200.9).

    Hello

    you might also want to see if ur mother board has the newest bios. if not try are ways of upgrading like online service, or usb flash drive if supported.

    Here is a link to all the updates for your motherboard:

    Update everything, not just BIOS. I would suspect the updated chipset drivers should solve the problem. Let us know how it works out.

    If you think you can’t do something, you’ll never be able to do it. No matter how easy it is.
