    Knives

I don't know anything at all about knives. I was just bored last night and was looking around to see what the U.S. armed forces used. I found this info from Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_individual_weapons_of_the_U.S._Armed_Forces

From this page, the Strider SMF is in testing/limited use:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_weapons_of_the_U.S._Marine_Corps

Anyways, I went to the official site of Strider Knives and found that they cost a lot. $475 for the SMF model (link). I went on Amazon.com and found something called the SBMF which was selling for significantly less; under $100 (link). They look the same and they seem to both be called Striders. They are sold by Buck Knives, which I assume why there is a B added in SMF to become SBMF. "Buck" is also written on the handle. I was wondering if they are the same knife. Did Buck Knives just rebrand them? Or is this some kind of cheap imitation?

    Thank for the help!

Quite a strange thread for this forum!  I would suggest finding a knife or military forum.  I'm sure someone knows the answer, but probably not here.Big Smile

HAHA! Yeah, it is a strange question for a pc hardware forum. But that is why I posted in off-topic and I figured I would give it a shot. There could be some military or knife enthusiasts who are computer enthusiasts as well. Wink And if there happen to be someone who can answer my question here, I don't have to go through the trouble of finding a good reliable knife/military forum and then signing up as a member just for 1 question.

That was pretty helpful. Good to know that the collaboration between Strider Knives and Buck Knives was stated on the Wikipedia page. Though it doesn't mean it was official, I'll assume that a fake company didn't try to edit that Wikipedia page with falso info. lol

Now to find out what makes the Buck Knives version so affordable. Mass production probably helps bring down the cost, buy not be that much. Wonder what materials were substituted and what the end resulting quality is.

    Edit:

Cool! A unique SMF knife with each custom 1911.

To be fair there are a lot of military members here. If I had such a question, I wouldn't hesitate to ask.

Cool, thanks for letting me know.

I'll try to research it on my own when I have the time though. Especially since they all seem to be busy.
