remember the 2900? that was supposed to be awesome the specs were amazing 512 bit interface? 1gb ram? but in the end it failed horribly. so i dont trust any speculation in terms of computer hardware any more.

It's basically the same as saying "AMD is going to engineer new hardware" -- and fanbois adding their own little twist to make it appear like AMD is putting together some dyabolical plan to kidnip nVidia's favorite child or something....

I'll have to wait and see it for myself =P...But I'd be very happy to see AMD/ATI pulling a rabit out of their hat =P.

ATi has to have a powerful GPU in the works.  On the single GPU front, ATi have yet to really move beyond the performance of the 2900XT released in May 2007.  Hopefully something big is in the works, but Nvidia released the 8800 series back in 2006, so I would think they would not be outlcassed by ATi yet.

We always hear these suprise attacks from AMD/ATI and then they never outperform the Nvidia or Intel processors. Let's face it Nvidia and Intel are much better, except maybe the 3780x2. :)

It's good that AMD-ATI still has a few tricks up their sleeves. Though I think the "nasty surpise" will come by way of Intel and will hit both NVIDIA and AMD-ATI square in the face. The more competition the better as far as I'm concerned.

Ah, the Intel Larrabee GPU?  That's not gonna be until 2009 or 2010, so I'm not concerned.  Yet.  I welcome competition though, so here's to it being fast and decently priced.  But Intel conquering both CPU and GPU markets is a scary thought.

It's not necessarily a monopoly...But I do agree with you in your despising of Nvidia. They really have gotten much greedier as time has passed. I just hope Intel's CSI license negotiations will atleast open up SLI on intel and amd based chipsets...

Re: AMD planning nasty surprise for Nvidia

     We will see.

Right now Nvidia is kicking so much butt, all ATI has is the 3870, and thats their top performer. 8800GTX, GTS 512, GT 512 all are better, and all are getting cheaper by the day. Unless they debut a card with more efficient shaders (320 vs 128 and still loose horribly) they wil be in for trouble.
