We have that at the end of 2008. This Hexaco idea is definitely interesting. If it doesn't cost a arm and a leg over quad core, you can see folders heavily picking these up =P. Same with those who need multiple cores, whether it be for video, audio, photo, or 3d...It's a interesting solution for single socket systems. =D. Hopefully the premium won't be way too high....But this will definitely stranglehold AMD even more if the performance doesn't lack =P.

lol. Well icer, it may be true for stock cooling. But aftermarket can definitely keep it cool enough EASILY. But obviously they would never make a product marketed towards after market. They want it to work with stock cooling...But considering that the Tjunction on a q6600 g0 is quite high, even stock cooling would be enough. Take it down to 45nm..and you DEFINITELY have room for 2 more cores with a very safe temperature. Personally I'm for this, =P...2 extra cores can't hurt for workstation users. They'd actually adopt it with open arms when you think about it, video encoding/editing, 3d rendering, audio work, etc...so many uses would benefit =D. If they do release one also, lower prices on quads, makes it harder for AMD though...I doubt prices would be lowered though, they'd just bump up the price above their quad setups to have mor processors in the 450-650 dollar range. But 6 cores is definitely not a bad thing imo =P.
There is DEFINITELY something wrong with your rig. I had a q6600 G0 rig two weeks ago that I built for a family friend. I'd reset your heatsink asap with some new thermal goop. I had a tuniq tower replaced with a very low DBA scythe slipstream fan. Ambient temperature was quite cool, but I was hitting 26-29 idle, 44-46 full load @ 3 ghz. Stock speed it was around 24-26 idle, and 39-43 load.
You have a B3? It shouldn't be THAT bad..You really should reset your heatsink. It can't be mounted properly in regards to your temps. Too much too little thermal goop? Or it's just not flush on the heatpsreader and at an angle.
My Q6600 "GO" runs at 45c,44,44,44 loaded 100% doing WCG (BOINC) with a 23c ambient watercooled. This is running overnight and those are morning temps with approx eight hours run time so a 45nm shrink will be a walk in the park with two extra cores.
Sounds like your system is a prime candidate for liquid cooling ice. With so many h20 experts here in the forums you should give it a shot... if you run into trouble, a thread requesting assistance will probably get plenty of attention quick!
I always thought about it but TBH I know absolutely nothing at this point -- I would be hesitant to think about it unless I read up on it for a while
A B3 does run a lot hotter than a G0.
That is a very smart attitude especially with water. Do your home work and if I can be of any assistance please do not hestiate to ask. I currently have three rigs on water, it has become an addiction. LOL
lol...Water is the area where I lack experience. I made one water rig in the past for myself when I was younger, and made the mistake of buying a 300 dollar kit which was just horrid. But now-a-days it'd be a different story considering my research habbits, I'd definitely end up with something from dangerden and swifttech, but would still be open minded for other top notch brands.
But just my 2 cents, water isn't worth really going for unless you plan to spend quite a bit, a high end air cooler will easily match or perform better than a lower end water cooling setup. But yea, if you plan to go for a to the edge OC, best to go with a high quality WC rig.

Not all that hard to do really, and if you shop around you can get it done without breaking the bank. I haven't used a air cooler in years, so I have no idea of how they handle load temps of multi cores, but water cooling keep my little rig plenty cool when clocked to 3.6.....
Wouldn't surprise me, considering AMD's Tri-Core. But you know the prcies would be absurd, especially if it's before any 8-cores come out. Intel's top CPUs are already over a grand. Dual socket quad-cores may turn out to be cheaper and better performing. But for single socket only mobos, every core helps for some programmes and if 6 is the best, hey go for it. I'm not one to bad mouh more choices for the consumer.
Indeed, if Nehalem wasn't coming out around the corner, I'd definitely nab one of these hexacores with a WC rig if needed (I'd have to wait and see the temperature on a high end air cooler). Damn, 6 cores, that would be a monster of an encoder if you ask me ^.^.
I am debating getting a Skulltrail after the prices drop some and two Xeons for crunching. Talk about fun, watercooling it would be a great journey.

I doubt quads would drop, they would just raise the price of these hexas an additional 150-200. The quads are already insanely cheap...When yorkfield comes out, the q6600 will be around 200.

Indeed. I'd definitely nab an octal core if I was to pick up a system. Considering I use many multithreaded applications, it would be a dream =D. I personally can not wait to see Nehalem numbers, it's going to be a monster ^.^
Imagine a Skulltrail Nehalem.
That would be compelte overkill, we will see it thogh in workstation dual socket boards...But as a skulltrail system that would be too much...lol. Plus, they'd have to remake the board with a new socket/chipset also =P..so I don't see it happening.
Overkill? Is there such a thing? LOL I was speaking of a Skulltrail type board made for the new pin sets.
