    Alienware's Killer Panoramic Killing Machine

Oh yeah. Alienware know where the cutting edge is, and it isn't spreadsheets. They've reached out to the inner Nomad in all of us with their outrageous prototype curved DLP display, with a  2880 x 900 resolution screen. That is not a typo.

They've got video of some lucky fellow blasting away from the Consumer Electronics Show here.

Oooooooooooooooohh! Want! Crysis is the best game to test on that, too, because it actually widens your field of view on such a wide screen. That should be done with a projector, though, like mine!.

I've been running three flat panels for ages and love it, but this is just gorgeous.  I bet this thing is going to be insanely expensive when it hits the market.

    Re: Wow

It will take a hefty rig to drive 2.6 million pixels in games like Crysis, but it does look insane... people running setups like that may end up getting very pale as a result of not going outside anymore!!!

    Re: Wow

Now how does it connect to the PC? single dual link plug or two actual plugs...if two actual that will screw SLI users no? (as i recall from my limited sli use it was either dual moniter or SLI not both.

Another thought, if dual link then that would be cool cause then I could run 2 of em at once.... damn, that would be a lot of head turning

There are various news items about this rig. Some report that this has a single DVI for the signal.

that's a weird resolution! Pretty sweet concept but I wonder how it really looks up close. Throw that in with some top notch surround sound and you really couldn't pull me off my computer!

If I'm not mistaken that rez would make it 16:5 ratio.

It is pretty nuts, but the vertical pixels are actually quite small..Forgot the actual resolution though...But do keep in mind this is a rear project unit, not a CRT running a cathode tube or a LCD...Good old red green and blue baby ^_^.

I'd still rather have a sexy Sony GDM-FW900 though =D.

Now the real question is, how does crysis work on that system. lol. I bet it lags like hell in other more intense levels.

Re: Alienware's Killer Panoramic Killing Machine

I bet it will be over $800 for sure, and that still sounds a bit not much for what other monitors are going for right now, but I highly doubt it that it will be only 800. Probobly around $1100

I'm expecting more, around the 2,000 dollar mark. If a 30" lcd goes for around 1500-2000..I expect this to be similarly priced...After all, it doesn't have any of the negative aspects of LCD's since it's rear projection.
