That thing is a beast, but i wonder how would i fit that in my rig, it looks like the HS shroud is level with the mobo, so my NB cooler would interfere.  Whats more is it looks like it might be even longer then my 8800gt that just barely fits in my case (I had to shuffle my HDD's around to accommodate the power cable.  if the card is any longer then what I have now I can't take the mounting rails out for the HDD's.

most (and i agree) are saying screw the gx2 and waiting for the gtx.  gx2 looks like its gonna be too big it needs a 6 and 8 pin connector from the psu and its speculated to be nothing but two underclocked 8800gs slapped together... but we shall se now shant we?

Meh.  Probably will cost $800.  And more than 512mb is still not required, was that first article really wanting 2x768?  2x512 is good enough for a looong time.  The card is good for future proofing, but the people who spend enough money on the top-tier cards usually upgrade in less than 2 years anyway.

Edit: I'm hearing $449 for price.  If so, not bad... I guess.  But if you already can play your games, you're better off getting a PS3 for that price, sheesh.

Never really worth it to pay that much for a GFX card in my opinion -- it drops in price within a month or two of being debuted and "high-end" cards will usually be "in" for about a year. Might as well wait about 6 months and then make the purchase for 1/3 of the original price and get a card that still performs very very well

Nobody really knows how this video card will truly perform, but we do hope that Nvidia will not mess up on drivers again. Hopefully we can get good scores just as if it was truly an SLI or better system.

I'll take a 9800 GTX, plz.... or 3 for that matter - as soon as NVIDIA releases their NFORCE 780a/790a MOTHERBOARDS, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!  whoa... chill out....

A good indication on how it'll perform is if you were to look at how 2x8800GTS 512MB perform in SLI since all the 9800 GX2 is just two G92 boards slapped onto one HSF.

It'll be quite interesting when nVidia's next highend video cards are out.

Ive always thought this way. Getting expensive video cards once they come out is like buying a collector's edition of a video game when you can buy the regular version for a lot less... its just like a novelty to some people.

Can somebody find a Geforce 8800GTS 512 (G92) SLI Review? I keep finding standard reviews but no SLI reviews. I would be very interested seeing how well it performs. Thanks a bunch.

Well you could take a 8800GT SLI review as a reference since the 8800GT is only slightly slower than a 8800GTS 512MB.

I will take a look into that. There is about a 700-1000 point difference in 3DMark06 between the two or not? So if it is in SLI, maybe a 1000 point difference between the 8800GT in SLI and the 8800GTS in SLI?

3dmark isn't a good indication of a GPU's performance however a point difference close to 1000 sounds about right.

This review should give you an idea of what to expect from the 9800 GX2:  http://firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gt_performance/default.asp

It's so popular and used by every site when benchmarking hardware. What makes you conclude this and what would you say is a better indicator of gpu performance?

Because its a sythetic benchmark that gives you a result based on a point system instead of frames.

I'm not saying you shouldn't use it to benchmark a GPU, all I mean is basing a GPU's performance based on a 3dmark score as apposed to a real world benchmark isn't a good rule of thumb.

I really wish we had a new architecture out now. It's kinda dissapointing to see Nvidia milking the g80 architecture completely dry while holding back g100. But the one positive aspect about this, is that intel chipset users can get SLI performance from the 9800GX2 ^_^. There are tons of users who dislike nvidia chipsets (myself =P). So it's a nice out for those wanting SLI on p35/x38.

    Bring on g100! >_<

Well they did the same thing with the G70 architecture.

ATI does the same as well.

Re: Nvidia Geforce 9800gx2 and 1st Half of 2008 outlook

Well, that may be true, but not THIS many refreshes. We had the 7800 GTX, than the 7900GTX, and 7950GX2. Right now with G80, We had the first set of 8800GTX and the 8800 Ultra. After that, it would most likely be seen for one more small refresh before a new architecture...But what have we gotten? A few months of a 8800 GT, 8800 GTS, and 9600 GT. Now, yet again, till july, more g80 based refreshes, 9800 GTX, 9800 GX2, and low/mid range g80 based architecture gpus as well. The 8800 GTX has been at the top for way too long, at july, it'll be 17-18 months.

Back during a JPMorgan conference last year around may or so. Nvidia stated they would always refresh their high end around years end, which would mean a new architecture or a faster product. We didn't get that, now we're still going down the road without a new architecture in sight. The 9800 GTX and GX2 won't last very long lifetime wise, G100 is due out Q3/Q4...So 3-6 months of time only? Nvidia is really milking the money out of this situation considering ATI isn't very competitive...I'm just tired of it and want a new architecture already. G80 is a good architecture, but it can't really handle crysis...=P

the drivers are still buggy, and specialists recommend a dual 8800gt in SLI instead of this. You will get much better temps for the GPU cores and surpasses the GX2 in a lot of tests

I would wait for the drivers to mature a bit more, give it about 2-3 months and see if it will do any better, although I do not believe in the fact that it will perform much better when there will be good drivers.
