    Upgrade or wait

Currently I'm using a socket 939 Amd setup. I like Amd but with all the talk about Intel C2D , I'm wondering which way to go. I've been looking at the socket AM2 and if I go this direction and the Quad cores come out will they work with the AM2 socket or will you have to upgrade everything again? And if I go Intel C2D and they release their quad cores will they work on the same socket as they are now. I do not do any overclocking and I'm just looking for the best setup for the money. I do multitasking and play a few games. This is my current setup.

i think you shouldn't updgrade. your system specs still look pretty good to me. i don't think there is a need to just yet.

Thanks for the information, I guess I'll wait and see what Amd does after the first of the year.

    RE: Upgrade or wait

It would be nice to know what socket that they'll be using so that we could plan and pick up a few parts along the way. Like Mobo, ram and etc. Thanks for the advice and please keep us posted on updates from AMD.

K8-L will ride on socket AM2. That's one thing AMD has always done well, they've always kept upgrades on one socket for a while longer than intel. Intel either changes sockets, changes power specs, changes bus speeds, or something else.

    RE: Upgrade or wait

Well It's been a little over a month since I checked on upgrades and was just wondering if anything new was out about AMD , or should I just give up and build a C2D and be done with my project.

    RE: Upgrade or wait

It is a good system , I was just thinking about future upgrades. I've always been a AMD person and would like to stay with them. I 'm just wondering if the AM2 socket will be around for a while should I upgrade to it. I 've heard talk of DDR3 in the near future, but I suppose there's no way to predict what they keep and what will be next out. Enough said I think I'll Just upgrade my video cards to the
8000 series and wait. Thanks for the fast replies and honest opinions.

    Upgrade or wait

I think u not need to upgrade ur pc hardware coz oledi high performance , if u want upgrade,i suggest u change a AMD x2 FX core which will run faster than yours. By the way, it is support to buy a graphic card for ur cpu coz u really play some high requirement pc games

    RE: Upgrade or wait

Yea i have almost the same setup as you but my money is burning a whole in my pocket. I am most likely going to get a Biostar Tforce 570, AMD X2 3600+ brisabane, and some nice g.skill ram and just OC the shiz out of it to get it up to 4000 and on speeds. Should also be getting a Arctic Cooling 64 pro.

    Re: Upgrade or wait

    Personally. WAIT!

AMD is just not a good solution right now. Lots of AMD fanboys have finally jumped ship and came to the dark side Devil  (Intel).

You have a great rig still, not cutting edge but it can last a while longer. Intel does tend to kill off their chipset/sockets quickly. Heck, they are releasing p45 and x48 soon, but they'll lose all upgradability at the end of this year thanks to nehalem. But honestly, AMD is in a bad position. You really should consider intel if you want performance that can last a few years. Wait till Q1 2009, Nehalem will be out, nab a nehalem board and processor. The performance gap when compared to the core architecture is said to be bigger than Netburst to Core. So it will definitely be worth it. Best to save your money now, and grab a new rig at Q1.

AMD does offer great upgradability when it comes to their sockets, but when the new socket nehalem comes out, atleast you'll have something with performance leaps and bounds over the core architecture, and even bigger over X2 and Phenoms.
