For a first time linux try, give Mandrake a go.

It simplifies everything and makes it real easy to at least get an idea how linux operates. linux by itself is a whole different ballgame from windows

If you have any problems, questions, PM me and i'll see what I can do to help.

Win98SE currently.

I'm hoping to upgrade to XP Home Edition in the near future.
I bet there will be a second release after they work out the bugs...

I'm in no rush.

I am guessing it is the Mandrake ISO but could you provide the url for the exact thing you want so I do not mess it up

thanks to those nice swapable IDE HD racks I run everything under the sun, mostly due to the fact that I have to support almost everything under the sun.

I've got 4 boxes at home, networked and sharing a cable modem connnection [I'm using a 386 with 2 ISA NICs as a router/firewall running coyote linux http://www.coyotelinux.com/ ]. then I have a dedicated FreeBSD 4.2 box which is my main server which all data is saved to, its got 73 GB of space on its SCSI drives, its a dual Pentium Pro 200 with 512 MB of ECC RAM and a Mylex RAID card [all stuff I found in dumpsters by the way]

I run everything from Solaris 7 & 8 on intel, about 3 linux distributions [caldera, redhat,& debian], NT 4 WS & Server, Win2K pro, WinXP RC2, win98SE, DOS & WFWG 3.11 (yeah i still have a DOS box handy), SCO Openserver & UnixWare..

Anything I do at work I do at home and then some. Plus I've always been the local neighborhood please fix my PC guy and now people are running more different stuff at hom [not just windows].

Basically you can't use a production box to experiment on but you can use your own toys for experimentation, performance turning, etc.

OIE!! my dad pulled that sh*t on me for all his friends. It got to the point where I told him if he brought any more computers home to fix, then he better fix them because I won't offer advice, support, or any helping hand. There is a line, and I had to draw it. It got so bad he would bring them to my apartment and I would spend the next 8 hours fixin the stupid thing. GRRRR. family!

situations like these make me love the movie "office space" even MORE! heh heh...all comp. techies should see it.

it sucks being the "mr. fix it" sometimes yeah...but there are there perks. my friends would have me look at their comps., luckly they never blew the crap out of 'em, so it didn't take 8 hours. sorry point, i feel for ya.
