When it drags properly half the time, it simply drops the data where I want it.

But if I: highlight, right-click and select 'COPY', I never have a problem then PASTING the data.

Why the issue with the drag and paste? And why sometimes works and somtimes not? Probably not truly random but has to do with the application I am dragging.

An example is dragging a sentence to the yahoo babelfish translate box. It will go where I sent it, but only after a very long 30 second delay.

Re: Curious right-clicking problem causes computer to lock-up

Cheers and we look forward to your Forum Favourites selections!

I saw this today where if the user right mouse selected on anything it would lockup. There is security software out there that uses such a mouse selection to lock the system for security reasons, so I would guess that this is a virus variant of that security software.

I found that in this case it was tied to the user’s profile so you may wish to simply add another user to see if the right mouse click problem exists in the new user profile as well. When I logged in under a new profile there is no problem.

Now just to find that insidious little variant that escaped Symantec’s safety net and eradicate it.

If that is the case, did you try malwarebytes? It's the best that I've come across at getting rid of junk like that.

I don't believe this is attributed to his mouse, he could always try a different mouse though...This sounds like a software issue. I would imagine the right click function works everywhere else, except in the cases that he mentioned.

Re: Curious right-clicking problem causes computer to lock-up

Sounds like the batteries on your mouse are dying... or the mouse itself is going bad. Even when I right-click on a file to check it's properties I get a lockup. If I select a bunch of files to drag them to the trash I get a lockup. I usually open the Task Manager and shut down the frozen operation and then do a workaround, but it's becoming very annoying. Did you have any luck in figuring out the problem?

Curious right-clicking problem causes computer to lock-up

I hoped that would have done it too... but I reset the CMOS as I said... ;-(. I can select the file and goto File (in the toolbar, same list as in right clicking) and everything is okay. It wouldn't bother me so much as this also happens randomly when installing applications (normally Wise install wizards, usually I delete the folder and retry install and it works fine).

To rid myself of the problem though I completely re-installed windows, which didn't change anything. I reset the CMOS, changed the IDE cable order, and switched the plug it was plugged into, etc... still nothing.

There was another Hard-disk I had installed which I formatted... (Files I tried to *run* off there would lock up my computer) of which I could right-click again just fine. I'd rather not have to format my main disk again with this hard-drive (yes I did a clean reinstall).

I ran CHKDSK, Scandisk, Registry Mechanic... nothing turned up either. And I know there has to be a way to fix this. Although I can't tell if it's a hardware or software issue. Even though I reinstalled Windows :-P.

I currently run AVG Free anti-virus which hasn't turned up anything either.

I still haven't tried using a PS2 mouse yet. I'm currently using a Logitech infra-red laser mouse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
