There is a known issue with SATA drives with certain brands of memory chips that causes data corruption. I had a motherboard fail after about 20,000 hours, which is not bad, but most motherboards will go much longer than that. I replaced it with a new motherboard of the same type, but that one has the problem that it boots only about 20% of the time. It simply hangs on the BIOS screen.

I have also had problems with my Eee PC netbook. The cable joining the screen to the body of the computer started to flake, such that it only works at certain angles. Also, the power connector is now intermittent.

I have had lots of computers over the last 20+ years, and have never had this kind of problem before.

Re: Extremely disappointed in ASUS reliability

Asus have a pretty good reputation, I would be surprised if the call doesn't go swimmingly. With that said it doesnt mean it will be flawless. I would have to say its more likely the AMD chipset if your sig is correct than it is directly Asus's fault. It hasnt really matured much and with the slumping sales of AMD products I doubt OEMs are puting as much attention on revising bios and what not. I know how frustrating it is but the best you can hold for is for them to RMA it again until you get a stable board. You may also want to make sure your bios is up to date.

Re: Extremely disappointed in ASUS reliability

Well like I said, They have an opertunity to redeem themselves when I give them a call tomorrow. I got my board back from RMA and installed it last weekend. Everything seemed to be working great with it. Then I started getting lockups with file transfers. Thinking it may be my hard drives I ran tests on all of them over night. They all passed (which I am relieved). On Sunday I tried running 3dmark Vantage on the new board and it ran for awhile and then all of a sudden i got a blank screen and then an unresponsive system. later that day my ethernet card started cutting out on me randomly so i put an old PCI ethernet card in the system just to avoid the problems i was having. Last night I had the onboard USB ports randomly start disconnecting and reconnecting and sometimes saying that everything was an unkown device. These included ports where nothing was hooked up to. I would also like to point out that these were the rear ports that were acting up. One of the front ports never worked from the get go as well.

At this point I am very frustrated with this whole situation. I have been an ASUS supporter for a long time and have put there boards in many systems for clients and myself. This has been the worst RMA experience that I have ever had. The board had problems from Day 1 of replacing it. I'm probably going to call ASUS up tomorrow and try and speak with a supervisor about all of this. This is really discouraging me from doing business with them but I hope they can rectify this situation. I will keep you guys posted on what happens.
