Do we still have a Folding Team here? It has been quiet lately. If you're still Folding of HH, please report in this thread! :) Let's get it going again!
Editor In Chiefhttp://hothardware.com
I have not been folding much since it is been crazy hot here and my tiny computer room heats up like a oven. I'll start back folding when I am out of the house though so I dont have to sit in the heat.
Do you guys know how to set up the program so it starts up when you boot into windows?
mine does it automatically with vista, if you're using vista i think there's a start up program thing in the Control Panel.. or if there's not Auslogics comes with a Startup Programs thing
Ya I am still here Folding up a storm. Got 2 machine running. I never went anywhere lol.
Since I have a quad core cpu does that mean I should run 4 instances of folding@home? I have it setup to utilize multiple cores, however I have a feeling it's using only one at a time, especially since it only utilizes 25% of my cpu.
You should use the SMP client here http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
Yea I would suggest what Bob said. Now if this pc is not being used that much you could set it up to run two instances of vmware that runs the smp client in it. My quad is producing anywhere from 3000-5000 ppd compared to just 2000ppd or less. But if this is ur main rig and you use it alot just the regular smp client would do cause the other way does use up alot of memory while it is being used. If you guys want to read up on it though check out this link. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1410289
If you have any questions just ask.
Is the smp client only a command prompt?
OK, the edit button officially is not working. Anyone else getting an error page?
This is my main rig...I just feel as though it's taking forever to do one 500 wu (so far 3 days.) The SMP client is a little bizarre and I don't like how it is stitting in my taskbar like it's an open program. If you think I should run the regular client then I will, however it seems weak.
The smp client does run on the taskbar. But look for a program called trayit and it will move it. But you will get more points out of the smp client compared to the regular clients.
Alright, I'll give that a try. Do you guys bother with the gpu client? I ran it over night because I realized that you needed to keep the window open.
Yea I use the gpu client and there shouldnt be a window that needs to be kept open. Just use the gpu system tray client. It will put a lil icon down there in the tray and that it is it.
Up, you're right. For some reason when I first started up the GPU client it kept restarting when I closed the window. The percentage kept resetting and I thought it meant that it wasn't working unless it was opened. Thanks for the help Transam
No problem.
Alright guys... I need some assistance...
I've got the GPU client running and chugging along... and I loaded the CPU client up to... but it's moving at a snails pace... I can't even max out ONE of my cores... It sits at a very low CPU usage, and I want to crank them up and have it running 8 threads at 100% usage.
I downloaded the DeinoMPI thing... but it doesn't make any sense to me... I don't know how to use that thing.
Core i7 920|EVGA X58|GTX295|2x30GB Vertex RAID0
CompTIA A+ Certified, CompTIA Network+ Certified, MCP Certified.
First go in and set your GPU client to slightly higher cpu priority then make sure you have the SMP client found here http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
Yea bob, I did that. I also have the DeinoMPI, but couldn't figure it out so I removed it. Then I tried to other one... I run it with the -smp switch and it starts... but then I get a "FILE_IO_ERROR"
I came up with my OWN solution lol...
I downloaded the single core version of folding at home. I tried to run 2 instances of it but I would get an error about the machine ID... so I came up with the bright idea of just copying the folder 8 times and naming each folder core 1-8(for easier identification) and then I edited the config file for each process to identify them as machine 1-8(each with their own number) and this allowed me to run 8 instances of the process. So i've got all 8 threads cranking at 100% now. AND i've got my GPU cranking along. :-)
