So pretty much they want to do what Apple has been doing for years now except whee Apple wants to keep certain devices like iPhones dumbed down compared to their desktop OS counterparts, MS's vision is to turn every device into full fledged OS running beasts. I vote MS.
I don't understand why Microsoft even created RT in the first place when they could have ported Windows Phone over in the first place and make it much easier on themselves when it came to ARM devices.
The one OS is a great vision. RT was a road bump, it can do what most people need it to do however people that use windows want to run everything they can on their desktop. Generally people want to surf the net and play some games, check emails and look at facebook. That's why they made RT, it really does more then the ipad however it didn't take well.
With the atom cpu's now there is no need for RT. They seem to last just as long as the arm cpu's and can run everyone windows needs. I guess they are giving it another try with surface 2.
with a unified OS and smaller smarter hardware we might actually see a viable xbox mobile device in the form of an old UMPC clamshell setup. That could give Shield a run for its money if it can run older desktop titles like Oblivion, Halo, GTA, Forza, SimCity, etc
