If true what a bunch of disconnected, incompetent turds. They could make it a selling point that the killswitch is built in to protect their customers. this could arguably raise awareness and cause people to purchase the theft insurance. just wow.
It's already a common practice in other countries to blacklist stolen IMEI's so those phones can never be activated again.
On the flip side it doesn't stop people stealing phones by the 1000's though because thieves are too stupid to understand that the phone can be blacklisted. I'm from South Africa where crime is practically a career option and people get punched and phones stolen from literally off their ears while they are talking on them all the time. The blacklist option really doesn't help too much, once the petty thief sells the phone to a the next guy up on the totem poll they check it for identity theft options and then trash the phone because they know the phones cant be used again.
The better option is to have an nuke app on the phone to remove personal information like samsung and various other brands already include with the base load of apps.
I already have a killswitch/tracker. It's called AVG Mobile and its a free app download.
