Apple seems fairly content letting everyone else battle it out for the under-$200 tablet market share crown, and if you haven't noticed, the war that's waging down there is getting pretty intense. Google's heralded Nexus 7 has a bit of like-minded competition today courtesy of the Tegra Note. Designed by EVGA, the Tegra Note 7 packs NVIDIA's 1.8GHz Tegra 4, a stylus, a built-in 5MP rear camera, 1GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, a 7" HD IPS display (1280x800), and a VGA front-facing webcam.

There's also 16GB of storage, a microSD expansion slot, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS + GLONASS, an ambient light sensor, HDMI output, USB 2.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 4100mAh battery that's supposedly good for up to 8 hours of HD video playback.

Pre-orders are open now at just $199, and if this one doesn't suit you, NVIDIA says that other Tegra 4-based units will be shipping soon from PNY, ZOTAC, Gigabyte, ADVENT, and XOLO.

Not impressed. The 2nd gen nexus 7 still seems a better deal.

At $199 this is going to be one of the fastest 7-inch slates out there and though res could be higher, on a 7-inch screen, 1280 will work.

I recently compared my old Nexus 7's screen to the new Nexus 7's screen. With exception to small text, you can't really notice the improvement unless you squint super hard.

I'm totally fine with this screen res on a 7' tablet. Considering that this comes with expandable storage, HDMI-out, front facing dual speakers, vanilla Android, and a stylus that's getting great previews, I would totally get this.

...if it had 2 gigs of ram instead of 1.

Not a bad tablet, would definitely grab this over Nexus 7 since this is built for a more gaming style than that of the N7.

Mobile gaming = Tegra for sure

Everything else = Nexus 7 for sure

Either way, both are amazing tablets!

I would grab both. :).
