I think even going way off the track of the story could be fun. I guess that this game has come to be respected for it's story driven gameplay though.
But if we can learn anything from FarCry 3: Blood Dragon.... wandering from the norm is often half the fun.

I don't think they can do that without invalidating the storyline. It'd be one thing if they handed directly ended that entire *branch* of history, but if the Lutece's experiment worked, they did. And that means it can't have sprung into existence again.
Now it's possible that the Letuce's were wrong, that they couldn't stop the creation of B-C, but if that's the case, it still rewrites the entire ending. The Booker that we see in the final moments of BI never met Elizabeth, only Anna.
