Despite Sony and Microsoft saying that games for their next generation consoles will cost the same as they do today, at least one publisher seems intent on placing a small premium on upcoming titles. That publisher is Electronic Arts, and according to information obtained from a question and answer post by Game, a games retailer in the U.K., EA titles on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will cost £5 more than what they sell for on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"At present, the only publisher to confirm costs of their next generation games are EA, attaching a price of £54.99. No other game prices have been confirmed," Game states. "We will of course update our listings as and when this happens. And if the price changes before release day, you will always pay the lowest price."

Titanfall

EA may have been encouraged by sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2, both of which retailed for £54.99 in the U.K. and saw pretty good sales. It will be interesting to see how U.K. gamers react to higher priced titles in general, and also whether or not other publishers follow in EA's footsteps.

This is getting a bit outrageous. I miss the days of 20-30$ games brand new. It's getting to the point where you will need to take out a loan to buy games lol

Just imagine if not for the success of one title, they wouldn't have something to milk for 10 years and they would have went under like so many better companies before them. A price hike in one region for no apparent reason, other then a plot Mr. Krabs would come up with, seems like a ridiculous ploy for putting some frosty peaks on their mountain of cheap money.

I was thinking the whole time "how are they going to compete with CoD, then?" Then you said they were selling at the price in in U.K. I think I'll be sticking to PC where games go on sale more.

I remember when I was in the UK, I never paid more than 35 for a brand new day one release. Competition is much more fierce there.

Its just plain greed! I wouldn't mind 60-70$ if that meant all free DLC for the games life cycle. But its really starting to tick me off that its 60 for the game and another 50 for a season pass. now they are going to start charging more for the base version? When is it going to stop?

Wouldn't mind to pay that kind of money for a game without DLCs if the game is good :)

I'm curious why they would try to initiate the price raise in the UK and nowhere else. It's clearly ridiculous.
