Lenovo has a really good thing going with its computer business as it wrestles with Hewlett-Packard for the shipment crown, and though the company continues to experience better growth in the PC market than its rivals, it also recognizes there's a mobile movement taking place. Perhaps for that reason, Lenovo is reportedly looking to acquire NEC's mobile phone business.

Citing a source that doesn't want to be identified, Reuters reports that NEC is in talks with multiple potential buyers. If true, it marks a shift in priorities for NEC, which up to this point had claimed that its mobile unit was an integral part of its overall business.

NEC addressed the rumor by providing a statement through the Tokyo Stock Exchange, saying that it's "considering a number of ways to bolster the competitiveness of our mobile phone business," but stressing that nothing has yet been decided. Lenovo, on the other hand, has not issued a comment.

The mobile phone market is currently dominated by Samsung and Apple. Lenovo, however, is motivated by its success in China, prompting the company to more aggressively try to expand in overseas territories.
