Unigine announced a new GPU benchmark known as Valley Benchmark. From the same developers who created Heaven Benchmark, the Valley Benchmark is a non-synthetic benchmark that is powered by the Unigine Engine, a real-time 3D engine that supports the latest rendering features. This benchmark features a number of graphics technologies and interactive modes.

The Valley Benchmark includes 64,000,000 square meters of very detailed terrain that includes mountains with snow-capped peaks, green expanses, rocky slopes, flowers, and a number of other photorealistic renderings. Unigine's previous generation Heaven Benchmark was widely known to make heavy use of DX11 tessellation effects to increase terrain and object geometry detail and fidelity.  Valley will likely incorporate more of the same.

Key features of the Valley Benchmark include:

  • Extreme hardware stability testing
  • Per-frame GPU temperature and clock monitoring
  • Multi-platform: Windows, Linux, Mac OS X
  • Advanced visual technologies: dynamic sky, volumetric clouds, sun shafts, DOF, ambient occlusion
  • 64 000 000 square meters of extremely detailed, seamless terrain
  • Procedural object placement of vegetation and rocks
  • The entire valley is free to be explored in interactive fly-by or hike-through modes
  • User-controlled dynamic weather
  • Support for stereo 3D and multi-monitor configurations
  • Benchmarking presets
  • Command line automation support
  • Highly customizable reports in CSV format

Unigine offers a free basic edition of this benchmark as well as Advanced and Pro versions. The Valley Benchmark is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 as well as Linux and Mac OS X 10.8+. You'll need 1.5GB of hard drive space and  one of the following GPUs with at least 512MB of memory to run the test: an ATI Radeon HD 4xxx or higher, NVIDIA GeForce 8xxx or higher, or Intel HD 3000 and higher.

A stunning benchmark. I ran it quick earlier and scored 40 FPS using the Extreme HD preset (990X, GTX 680). All I could think when it was running was "I wish this were a game". There's even a walk mode to make it feel like one (just a little bit).

I was curious, so went and installed/ ran their other benchmarks. Interestingly, Heaven was harder on my system than Valley was.

Here are the other two:

I tested on Extreme HD and High settings. I used just one of the GTX-570's. (I have the other one in another box for now)

I posted pics,...... ^^up there^^ (R-U still having trouble seeing my pics?)

Note: I'm running my 2600K @ 4.4GHz, but it shows me running at stock 3.4GHz speeds.

My 'Extreme HD' result was 28.7FPS with a score of 1200.

My 'High' result was 49.9FPS, with a score of 2089.

Heaven is harder on the system because it makes heavy use of tessellation, whereas Valley doesn't use it at all.

Linux, FTW. (Ubuntu 13.04 alpha)

I was also running a TF2 server, two minecraft servers (one with pixelmon mod), system updates, and running fsck -ccf on a usb drive when I ran this.  So I can probably do better, but that fsck looks like it's going to run for 2 more days.

I blame Dave and Marco for giving me such a powerful CPU.  It possesses no bottlenecks when coupled with the multitasking power of Linux.  It's hard to believe this system is nearly three years old.

I've upgraded the graphics, but my card's not bleeding edge, and yet all of my games (even the Wine ones) run flawlessly.  I can see this system working perfectly for another three or four years (as long as I upgrade graphics at some point)... which I would have thought insane before using it.

Yeah, I'm still using the i7-870 system they gave me in 2009.

It too, has better graphics in it, but it still eats through games like crazy. Encoding jobs go fast, and it's dependable. Here is it's score, tested on High settings.

I can't see your results so could you post them, as well, realneil?

I don't know what's going on. I did post them.

I see them, and when I fired up my iPad earlier, it saw them too.

That is strange.  I just tried with my Nexus 7 and still cannot see your i7-870 results.  Would you just write them out like you did for your 2600K.

I tested on high settings with the i7-870 only.

The score was 2332 and Fps 55.7

It has a GTX-570 also.

Wow, those Lynnfields are still worthy CPUs. Is yours overclocked?

Thanks a lot for posting your scores. =)

Lynnfields are great CPUs but the 1156 platform doesn't have the PCI-E lanes that X58 does. So SLI and Crossfire are not going to run the same way.

As for OC,...no, it's only at stock speed (2.9GHz.) because it's older now. I don't want to lose it by pressing my luck. It always did OC very well though.

I have other systems that I OC. (2600K & FX-8350)

The 870 has a Corsair H-50 CPU cooler with two TT-Silent-Cat 120mm fans in push/pull, 16GB (4-4GB) of GSKill Sniper DDR3-1600 RAM, 1.5TB Storage, and a 120GB SSD. The case is a CM-HAF 932.

Thanks for the info, realneil. I have the same i7-870 @ 4GHz and your scores

helped me decide that I don't need to spend the money to upgrade at this time.

However, I most certainly need to upgrade my GTX 275.

My scores:

FPS: 14.3

Score: 360

Min FPS: 7.9

Max FPS: 33.9

*hangs head in shame* :D

EDIT: Febuary 21st 2013

Here is my Valley benchmark with my new EVGA GTX 670 FTW+.

I just need to figure out why the new GPU appears to never go over 705 MHz(save the above

screenshot to see as this site cropped the edge) *scratches head* ...and buy a SSD. =)

Hmm your i5 should have kicked my Athlon's butt, could there be that much difference between a 580 and 570?

It's an i7 and that makes it worse. What resolution are you running?

LOL!

The system ought to be scoring higher than it is.

I think that the 240GB SSD may be too full. It's the one I use all of the time and I haven't tweaked it in a long time.

No time to mess with it because my water heater just quit working last night.

Yeah you should totally be smoking my system, I don't have a SSD.

Sux to hear about the water heater, bummer.
