Like an unexpected kick to the groin (as if those unfortunate incidents are ever expected), Rockstar Games today announced that its highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V game won't ship in Spring as originally intended. Instead, it's being delayed about four months and, barring any further setbacks, will debut on September 17, 2013.

"We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time," Rockstar Games said in a statement. "GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require."

Rockstar Games apologized for the delay, ensuring fans that "the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be." Whether or not it lives up to those expectations, we'll have to wait until September to find out.

An interesting side note is GTA V's release to PC, which the developer still hasn't confirmed. However, the PC version recently appeared for pre-order on Amazon in France and Germany, while the e-tailer's U.K. site listed a notification page. Unless Amazon is making a giant leap of faith here, Rockstar Games might as well come and out and officially announce the PC port, which will hopefully debut around the same time as the console version since it's already being delayed four months.

Given how unbelievably buggy most GTA games are at launch, I doubt many people will oppose this. It sucks, but if it makes a better game, then so be it. This delay sure isn't going to hurt sales.

What really stinks is that they couldn't push it out before summertime, forcing gamers to go out and get some sunshine. Or, play a different game.

I'd be fine with this delay if I thought it was in part because a Wii U version was coming but it ain't

Damn, I'll be back in school by then. Was hoping to plow through it during the summer. Oh well, maybe by the next time I have a chance to play it it'll have a bunch of the inevitable bugs patched out.
