Steve Jobs’ Yacht Impounded For Overdue Payments To Designer

Remember the awesome yacht Steve Jobs commissioned before he passed away? Well, it was temporarily impounded over a payment dispute. Designer Philippe Starck and his lawyers contended he was 'only' paid €6 million (~US$7.9 million) for the €100 million (~US$132 million) superyacht, but was owed €9 million (~US$11.9 million) total. Basically, it was a dispute over $4 million.

That's a lot of dough for mere mortals, but would it be enough to prevent the heirs of Steve Jobs from sailing off into the sunset? Not a chance.

"The Venus is not under arrest," a Dutch lawyer for the Jobs family said in a statement. "A solution has been found and a guarantee has been deposited in a bank account so that the boat can leave."


It's unclear how much was deposited and whether or not the designer will be paid the full $4 million he will be owed, but either way, both sides appear happy with the resolution. Good thing too, because a yacht that nice has no business sitting in an ocean impound.

Venus, as it's been named, measures 260 feet long and is filled with luxuries. It's constructed almost entirely of aluminum, so it's lighter than most other yachts, and there's a sun terrace with a Jacuzzi on the foredeck. Jobs also had seven 27-inch iMacs installed in the wheelhouse, among many other amenities.
