The next iPhone model may ship in a variety of colors. Jefferies analyst Peter Misek wrote in a note to investors that the rumored iPhone 5S is destined for a June 2013 release, and that it will be available in 6-8 color options. It's unclear if he has some inside info he's working with, or if he's basing his prediction on the fact that Apple's newest generation iPod touch comes in black, white, pink, yellow, blue, and red.

As Misek sees it, the iPhone 5S will include a new super HD camera/screen, an upgraded battery, and NFC support, SFGate reports. Other than the release time frame, Misek isn't really go out on a limb with any of his predictions. NFC support is almost a given after it was skipped on the iPhone 5, and none of the other features he mentions are game changers.

Launching the iPhone 5S in June is a bit more interesting, as far as predictions go. It would be a departure from Apple's recent release time frames, though a June release isn't unprecedented. Here's how things have shaken out up to this point:
  • iPhone 5: September 21, 2012
  • iPhone 4S: October 14, 20111
  • iPhone 4: June 24, 2010
  • iPhone 3GS: June 19, 2009
  • iPhone 3G: July 11, 2008
  • iPhone: June 29, 2007

With increased competition from Android devices, and Samsung in particular, along with Microsoft making a push with Windows Phone 8, it wouldn't be all that shocking if Apple reverted back to a mid-year release for its next iPhone.

The color options aren't unbelievable and it would make some sense, since they already do this with iPods, but there's always the risk of a certain color being unpopular and selling less than others, meaning a buildup of iPhone 5S's in that color and making them worth less because they're undesirable.

Now I can't really make any predictions to what that might be but a bright pink yellow or blue phone doesn't really give an impression of professionalism in a business environment. I think good 'ol black and white are the way to go and let the color customization occur with cases

I'm personally surprised the color options weren't already an option.  Charge $50 more, sell 10 million colored options = profit.

The colors may only now be an option if the material on the backing has changed?

I can see a June launch especially if they are wanting revert back to the original release schedules they had when jobs was in charge. It's a lot more realistic than march which everyone was talking about
